Well we know Sony will sell the handheld at a loss. But if the loss is too big then it is a bad idea. They don't want to loose 2 billion dollars on hardware sale. That is what will happen if the price is $299. It will sell shitloads and loose shitloadss at the same time.

Good points. The iPod touch has a much weaker cpu/gpu, no physical buttons, no 3G, no back trackpad, etc... NGP is going to be expensive or sold for quite a loss, imo.

And that iPod touch is sold with Apple price margins which might be even higher than Nintendo ripoff margins while Sony will go for small loses or no profit on initial sales.

Also a good point. Apple is notorious for ripping people off on hardware costs.

Well, if the PSP Next (I like this better than PSP NGP seen in the picture) does release at a $299.99 price tag then I may consider buying it over the 3DS.  However, until the official price for the Next is released I'm not getting my hopes up.  The Next seems like an expensive portable and $299.99 sounds too little for the starting price.

Oh man, that would be a dream come true. Personally, I'm willing to pay up to $350 for the NGP, but $300 would be great. If this is the real price, the 3DS will have some stiff competition.

agree with the apple statement -- they have amazing margins so the comparison isn't really valid.

to the screen on the NGP -- i did my grad research on OLEDs and organic solar cells and i can tell you, the reason that industry is so interested in this tech is that the manufacturing of OLED screens is much much easier than competitive techs like LCD.  I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS's two screens cost more than the NGP's one screen.

okay yeah, the raw power of the NGP is going to cost more than the 3DS but knowing sony is planning to take a small lose-lead strategy and that nintendo never seems to attempt that...i can't imagine the NGP is going to be much different in cost from the 3DS. 

300 sounds right to me.

HAHA....  if PSP2 sells for 299, it will feature a device twice as powerful as the next gen ipod touch, sadly with only 50 dollars less expensive.

 

I'm willing to pay 399 for it, if it only costs me 299, I won't complain. ;)

If the price is true, Sony should annouce it a bit before 3DS launch. So I predict we will know the launch price of NGP and probably its official name at GDC.

Isn't that really just a guess from GameStop? I think 350-400 is more likely.

I want one of these sooo much, so it would be awesome if it is actually 300 =)
