GT5 comes from a franchise known to have lasting sales (even in the States). It appears to be overtracked by 130k here on the Chartz, but not that big of a deal. I still expect it to leg it's way to 2.5 mill in the States. It has lost a bit of it's brand power in the US & JP, but it's still over 5 million WW after 6 weeks and still a strong franchise.

As for the 360's scenario, like GT5, with holidays come adjustments. Nothing uncommon. Despite them, it had a stellar holiday, thanks to Kinect/360S!

Hmm, 2.5 for states alone is too much IMO. Isn't it just over 1 mill atm? I think past games like GOW3, LBP and U3 have done well legs wise because good word of mouth and fact they HAVN'T come from big existing franchises. I don't think GT5 is going to get amazing word of mouth, and I think apart from continental Europe, GT5's legs are going to be dissapointing to the hefty expectations some people have here.

But, I could be wrong, not the first time.

I see it hitting that not necessarily because of word of mouth, but future bundling. It'll probably have a holiday 2011 bundle of sorts, and little deals here and there. It's currently at 1.2mill (give or take a future adjustment), and I see it making it to 1.5 mill by Summer/Fall time here. With holiday bundling, price cut(s) and the Graetest Hits Edition, I can see it making 2 mill by next Jan and at least 2.5 mill lifetime.

It won't be easy, but I think it'll manage it.

Well yeah if it gets bundled then the sky is the limit, I guess that's a likely event. BTW you say states? Didn't it do roughly 400k last month and 560k this month? That's less than 1 mill. Or did you mean Americas?

My error, I meant Americas.

Yeah I thought so, well Latin America is a pretty good selling place for GT5, so 2.5 overall with bundles in Americas is achieveable.

oh and if you want to talk about genuine bombs, please look at games like lost on shadows..now THAT has the making of an epic bomb

really? you are comparing GT5 with Lost in Shadow?

OT: Who would have thought VGC would overtrack GT5 but undertrack Epic Mickey? I was expecting the other way around.

not at all, don't look for things that aren't there, I don't make random comparisons like some around here to prove my point.  I said if you want an example of a bomb, look at that title, it may be a bit early to say so but a game can't get off to a worse start than that. From what I have read it's a good game too, so that's a shame.

How are you not making random comparisons? You basically said GT5 is not a bomb (wich it is not) but bring up Lost in Shadow as an example of (in your words) an "epic bomb" . Seriously, why compare a game in development for 4 years and God know what kind of budget to Lost in Shadow. Why not at least bring up a game with equal development time and or budget. : )

-_- it's not a comparison, if it was i would compare the sales, which would have been silly. i pointed at the sales of a game that looks to have bombed. i don't care what the budget is but those are terrible numbers.

Not taking your own advice are also horrible traits to have.

Found PS2 / PSP figures for Dec for anyone who wants to know - they're in the article.

Total HW was 29.1m units in 2010. Thats below 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Microsoft's systems also beat Sony's systems (combined) for the first time ever in the USA market.

Those are some disappointing Wii sales. We knew that they would be at the very least 2.3m since a few days, but I expected them to be closer to 3m than that 2.3m figure. Turns out that Wii sales actually were just above 2.3m.

On the bright side, Wii software did well, most notably Epic Mickey.

The Wii isn't selling to casuals anymore Rol, MS has taken over the "business".

ot @Mickey, why is Warrens Twitter private? http://twitter.com/wespector

PS2 dropped from Nov despite an extra week and xmas boost, 75k. Surely Sony are going to stop shipping there soon? It'll be selling about 5k for the entire month of June by the time we get there ...

PSP at sub 500k is pretty bad as well ... I can see some pretty dire months ahead for it in U.S
