This is going to be their excuse for loosing to Nintendo in December confirmedz.

What if 360 beat Wii in December regarldess of the shortages?

Except the shortages are fake. They can't counter that since they used the same argument last year for the Wii.

Please do yourself a favor and don't say shortages are fake when they are 100% real.

Also Wii beat 360 in December.

Even with tight shipments, 360 sales should still be strong for the months of January and March. However Kinect sales may dip.

Still I expect 360 to show strong sales, likely above PS3 sales until June or so, and it will probably sell close to as many units as the Wii, but after June it's anyones game. I mean in 2010 Sony started with the strong foot, but MS caught up with the Slim model and Kinect, I see no reason why the opposite can't happen this year.

I wish those first week of 2011 sales came up soon, I want to see a new section for 2011 in Annual Summary, and I want to observe falling sales for all the big games of 2010.

There goes my prediction, at least be close MS. Anything below 2million is terrible to me.

They DID?  Not in the DC region best buys...

The thread didn't say every 360 was sold. It says MS ran out of consoles. Hence, they didn't have more units to ship to stores that did sell out.

360 had a huge holiday and Kinect sales exceeded expectations greatly. So its not that shocking MS wasn't able to meet all demand.

Touche'...while 360 probably didn't totally sell out, they were in low supplies...at least, from what I saw.

Nelson always flaunts the advantage when it comes to NPD. He wouldn't have even entertained the possibility of a Nintendo victory unless it was pretty much a certainty. And he should at least have a general idea of what the Wii sold based on Nintendo's 34 million press release. It'll probably be above 2 million but probably not 2.5. And what does he mean by "Likely amazing YOY growth"? I would assume that's a given.

knew this was gonna happen

kinect bundles were sold out everywhere here

Yes, that's true. Microsoft did a good job supplying systems each week too. It's a good thing they ran out AFTER the holidays though. Demand won't be as high in Jan/Feb months.

Just as i wrote 2 days ago the wii beat the 360 in December , that was obvious and by a big margin i might add . The shortages excuse is bullshit esp. with the way Greenberg presents it. Judging by online stores there was a slight shortage in the beginning of December but the 360 has been in great supply (kinect bundles included) everywhere since around the middle of December . The shortages excuse becomes even sillier for Jan/February .

It's no shame to loose to the wii which costs just a bit over the kinect sensor alone (amazon is selling the wii wii sports/wii sports resort for 179$) .  MS should either be more agressive with its 360 pricing (a 100$ drop in over 5 years for the "regular" xbox360 models and everything kinect-related is extremely expensive on top of that) or accept second place in the holiday season and just move on .

Edit: I'd like to add that hardware makers should stop using the shortages excuse when the consoles have been on the market so many years (that goes to both MS and sony last year) . It's inexcusable for a console to face shortages after its first year on the market. At least MS managed to execute the kinect launch great with plenty of supply (as evident by their 8 million kinects shipped) .

There have been shortages. The Holiday Bundle and the 250 gb Kinect Bundle had been sold out at some traders, for days, weeks.

But some of the shortages are not so bad for MS, so they could sell more 4gb 360s and they maybe will sell more hard drives in future.
