Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The 360's weakness is now its strength

I keep seeing this argument and frankly I don't understand it. The 360's lineup is more diverse than the PS3's. Everyone keeps calling the 360 the FPS console. Hell people still call Gears of War a FPS. Which if thats the case, i guess Uncharted is an FPS too. When will people learn the difference between third person and first person. When will anyone notice despite its Japanese performance the 360 has more RPG's than the PS3. When a game like Viva Pinata tanks on 360, its a sign that only FPS's sell on 360. Yet Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, and Uncharted aren't lighting up the charts for PS3 and several FPS titles have. I think I will make "hypocrisy" my word of the day. EDIT: I am an RPG gamer, only reason I picked up a PS2 last gen. Outside of White Knight Story, I could care less for the PS3 rpg lineup. Final Fantasy has been in the toilet for years and I refuse to roll the dice and buy a PS3 on the hope that Square Enix might get it right this time.

 The topic at hand isn't about whether or not the 360 has a diverse library. I believe it was the fact that shooters, sports and WRPGs are the only games that sell well on the 360. You can argue that the 360 has games such as Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Viva Pinata, etc, but those games haven't sold nearly as well as the games that belong to the aforementioned genres.

Another thread hijacked by MikeB's cellantics!! Wasn't this thread directly related to the 360? How come every post of Mike's pretty much only involved the PS3. Oh, and the only reason you prefer motorstorm as racer of choice is because you own a PS3 and not a 360. That game doesn't even compare to the top racers on the MS console. I personally think Motorstorm is a lackluster arcade racer, and as much as I tried to get in to it since it was just about the only racing game out at the time, it just wasn't fun to play. Oh, and enough with these surveys, they don't prove anything. I'm sure I could find a survey somewhere that says Ron Paul is the Republican front runner for the upcoming primary, so surveys/polls mean absolutely diddly(even though it would be nice to see Ron Paul at the head of the pack).

Currently Playing:

PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4

XBox One: BF4, CoD:Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5

It's clear from software vs hardware sold, that the PS3 is being bought as a Blu-Ray player by a large number of people these holidays and its also questionable if these renewed sales will last beyond the holidays where as we can be certain the 360 will slow but continue in strong continuation and the Wii in near Holiday-like sales for a month or two after as people run to make use of the gift certificates parents bought their children instead of the Wii at Gamestops and other retailers.

Since this thread is talking about the 360, can you explain the bolded part? It doesn't make sense as written.

Hmm its not the library it just seems that the top games selling are FPS which is true.

Then again what games besides the violent ones have been massively selling on the ps3........(and sports games)

                 With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Proud supporter of all 3 console companys

Proud owner of 360wii and DS/psp

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

That's actually an interesting point, and I think that's the PS3's greatest weakness.  It missed some of the PS2's target audience (casuals and RPG fans) and instead picked up very little else than the American shooter/racer/sports game crowd.  A crowd who it really can't compete against the 360 for.

Indeed it is, i hope the 360 can at least decently change

IF LO, Infinite, or Last remnant do 500k or so in states, i will be happy. Since the rest of the world should provide for those games to hit over a mil.

I come to this from the perspective of someone who has only a Wii from this generation but has all three of the consoles from last generation.

I like a variety of games -- including casual and RPGs.

Last generation, ironically, those were hard-to come by on the Xbox. So what did I buy first, the Xbox.

This time around though, the 360 has a more diverse library. While it might be known for action and FPSs, it offers other types of games as well.

The PS3 meanwhile has a more limited and more action-based line-up.

Thus, the 360's lineup is better. Of course, since it has been out a year longer, this should be expected.

What is unknown is what the lineups will look like when both consoles are mature. In previous generations, the Playstation lineup has been very well-rounded. I sense this time around, it may not be as diverse.

 Thats  just his schtick. Notice how he called people trolls for stating exactly what he intended with his post but didnt come right out and say. He leaves things just ambiguous enough that when someone calls him on it he can cry foul. "I never intended that." PHAW! BS everyone here gets what he intends and its fanyboysism at its best (unreasonable support of ones preference while degrading others while never taking accountability for obvious intent masked in ambiguities and word games).

Smackdown, the PS3 has the same problem. I am tired of PS3 fanboys pointing the 360 having issues selling games that aren't shooters when their big titles don't sell either. Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, and Uncharted have tanked. The only games that seem to sell on PS3 are the ones that sell on 360. The difference is that they sell two to three times as many units on 360. The simple fact of the matter is that neither the 360 or PS3 have tapped into the mainstream market yet and that is the root of the problem.

Here are the software sales numbers for November 2007:
* Xbox 360 - 4.034 Million Units
* Wii - 3.567 million units
* Sony Family of Game Systems - 2.045 million units

How anyone can argue that the PS3 attracts a broader demographic is shocking. The numbers don't lie and this is what publishers and developers look at.
* COD4 - 1.57 Million units on the Xbox 360 - .444 Million Units on the PS3
- 22% of COD4 sales are on the PS3
*Assassin's Creed - .98 million on the Xbox 360 - .377 .444 Million Units on the PS3
- - 28% of Assassin's Creeds sales are on the PS3(while every ad was a PS3 ad)

These numbers guarantee that games will first be developed for the Xbox 360 and then ported to the PS3.
The numbers also show that the Wii is very close to dominating both the hardware and software sales charts. I expect this to start happening in early 2008.
