Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The 360's weakness is now its strength

I agree with you, most XBox 360 owners are FPS fans (due to games like Call of Duty, BioShock and Gears), so releasing a game like Halo 3 will do very well amongst its userbase as will other 3D shooters like Mass Effect. Halo 1 and Halo 2 were the original XBox' most important games, so I think it's not much of a surprise. The Wii has a much larger percentage of yound kids and females playing, while PS3 and XBox 360 is preferred by older teen and mature males according to surveys......

I don't think I called Gears a FPS in this thread, but IMO the game appeals to FPS fans for sure. It the game has a lot in common with a FPS apart from viewpoint, Uncharted differs far more.

You didn't call it a FPS directly. Although it was implied in the first line of the post that quoted you on. So I apologize for assuming that you called it an FPS directly. That said, Mass Effect isn't a 3D shooter. It is an RPG.

@Kn, there are differen't classes in Mass Effect and you can become in proficient in Sniper rifles with a few of them. I will be honest with you though. Sniping in Mass Effect isn't every effective initially. Once you put points into your sniping and get a hold of some good weapon mods (Kinetic Coils/Stabilizers) it become extremely effective. On several of the uncharted planet missions I was able to wipe out all my enemies with out them so much as sniffing my position. Mass Effect is awesome. I have completed it twice and I'm ready to start my third playthrough.

I would say it's a mix.

If only the game didn't have severe framerate issues, shouldn't happen so much in PS3 and XBox 360 games IMO (identical specs should allow for good optimisation, almost looks like many games were intended for PCs and the devs did a bad job porting and Mass Effect is a high profile exclusive).

PS3 vs 360 sales

The only demographic that the X360 has from the Wii is the 14-21 Market.

add me, the more the merrier.

Mass Effect is an RPG. How far have you got, MikeB?

It has heavy shooter elements in the combat system, but it still has 100% of everything that fits it into the RPG genre.

Its like arguing that Final Fantasy XII or KOTOR aren't RPGs because of the semi automated combat.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Yeah, if only the developers had concetrated more effort on the graphics and less on storyline, gameplay and such then it would of been a real AAA like so many other PS3 games.

Edit: cleared it up a bit

Like Assassin's Creed, Orange Box, Madden, Area 51, Pro Evo 08, Marvel, Skate, NCAA, et. all on PS3?

That's what I wrote, both PS3 and XBox 360 games. Reread what I wrote, I don't accept severe framerate issues for console games, if incompetent or the hardware being too weak to handle the current game engine, I think they should rather dumb down the game's visuals a little to result in a better framerate. (I understand good screenshots are important to help sales, but IMO reviewers should do their best pointing out the disadvantages)

The reasons for framerate issues in PS3 games are widely known and understood, but that doesn't need to be the case as demonstrated with for example Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction or Unreal Tournament 3 (or GT5p for Japan), two of the most demanding console games currently available. And these games are only tapping into a minority of the Cell's performance potential.

Jesus, two people in a row misunderstanding what I wrote. Do you read what you want to read and just troll or was I really that unclear? Anyhow read the comment above as replied to someone else.

Reread what I wrote, as what you stated is exactly what I stated. Mass Effect is a RPG as well as a shooter, just like Uncharted is a platformer as well as a shooter.

No its an RPG. Bioshock is a shooter with RPG elements. Mass Effect is an RPG. Using your logic the Tales series is a hack n' slash/action game series instead of being an RPG. There are several different type of battle systems within the RPG genre. Thats what makes it my favorite genre.
