Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony channel stuffing PS3's to retailers (w/ pics).. AGGRIVATING.

I do wonder what to make of crust being stuffed over the holidays.  All that cheese can't be healthy.

Anyhow, I am wondering if anyone maybe thought that they wanted to get ready for holidays.  Either that or corporate for Gamestop bungled where the shipments were going.

WRONG. It's not up to us as a retailer; maybe the corporation as a whole trying to smooth out shipments across all stores in a region, but NOT us. This is a product that isn't exactly the fastest selling thing on the market (like DS) yet we keep getting more shipments, and our DM just wants us to make space for everything.

You obviously don't work in retail.

You're joking right? Someone has to make the order in your store- companies just don't send out batches of products and hoped they guessed right. Its up to the store to make the orders based on demand.

You obviously don't work in retail.

Why are people posting when they have no idea how Gamestop works? It's like I'm getting attacked by Sony loyalists like this is all a conspiracy. Then again, this is VGchartz.

1) "someone has to make the order in your store"

Would you like to bet a ban? Store Managers don't "order" more like it's some sort of resturant. Not even District Managers do that.

2) " Its up to the store to make the orders based on demand. "

Wrong, again. Demand is high for Kinect and 250gb 360's, yet we don't "order" them. We get them shipped randomly, which has to do with Microsoft and Gamestop Inc. Same regarding this and Sony.

Next time, don't critisize somebody if you have no idea what you're talking about.

So let me get this straight, whoever gets your stores products has fucked up so badly that they have vastly overordered ps3s? Because sony doesn't just ship them places. Someone on your end is ordering them.

So here are the possibilities

- Sony is forcing stores to buy their product (or giving them away for free to get their numbers on vgchartz up)

- Someone on your side consistently fucks up the ordering of ps3s in a big way and no one at your store is telling them to stop

-You are lying

Better idea!

GameStop's upper managment is run by communists who are recieving funding from Sony to accept PS3s and distribute them equally among their comrades (being the stores themselves)!

Should of known the commies were involved, fukken sony fanbois

The managment was like

"Herro Sony, we no dat you need more sales bro-ski. We are generously accepting dat offa if you fund us for World Domination"

"Sure, make sure these shipments go to the right stores!"

"They well be equally distributed! Now we need 2 million more!"

"Why?"

"We need to bundle more unsold God of War Collections and get rid of Lair!"

Two points.

One -- talking with people at shops I know, the PS3 is not selling. So someone (higher up in the food chain, like at corporate HQ) probably miscalculated how many units would be needed.

Two -- I have seen other retailers, not just GS, with a ton of PS3 but few Wiis and Xbox 360s.

One way or another, Sony's shipping a lot more than what seems to be selling

Sony does NOT care about vgchartz numbers. I doubt Sony even cares this site exists. Sony is NOT giving things way for "free."

The logical explanation is that Sony counts shipped to retailers as sold, and they are trying to hit their 15million mark. Whatever they're doing with Gamestop Inc or anyone else is FAR above my head, as I'm only an assistant manager.

But again, you're wrong about us "ordering from sony" and you're wrong about "ordering based on demand." Like I said, don't post things if you have no idea what you're talking about; like I said, I'm willing to make a ban bet.

My topic was merely speculation and to see if anyone else working at retail is experiencing similiar things, because I've talked about it to people locally but I do not know more outside from that. It's not normal to recieve tons of shipments on a product that we already have mass quantity of, even for Christmas.

Sony has been stuffing your store for months and you have 45 consoles in your basement?

45-ish 160gig PS3's, more $400 Move bundles (I don't know how many but it looks like 11-12 of those, hard to count estimate because most are behind the other skus) downstairs.

Even more upstairs in our stockroom as I said if you actually read my post.

I don't know if you're familiar with Gamestop, but that isn't normal for a big Gamestop even at holiday, and this is what our small store has had since September.

It's like triple or more from last year.

45 regular PS3, 12 Bundles, 15 upstairs, there more than 72 PS3 in your small store and they are not selling and Sony keeps sending. While 360 is sellout, and Wii moving a good paste.

Stupid Sony should be doing the the same thing with the PSP.

Retail people. RETAIL.

They are selling of course, it's just the amount that's almost in-store is near those numbers. It doesn't look like it's going down because of other shipments.

And PSP does sell well, it just get's trumped by the DS. I sell PSPs all the time.

I know when I was working at EB games we always had a stack of 20 or so PS3s, but they come and go, always a constant supply.  In contrast we never had any Wiis (this was when everything sold as soon as they came in) and 360s would come in a few at a time, get close to selling out then we'd have more.  You say you had that stack of PS3s for a while, and they're not selling, but it sounds like your supply is selling, it's just getting replenished as fast as they sell (Unless you said your stack has been getting bigger since September then I misread.)

Every quater we hear Sony is overshipping, every quater Sony keeps shipping, when are these comapanies going to stop accepting these shipments. I thought they could return them.

1. Little bit of a joke, blink and you might miss it

2. Just like everyone other company in the world

3. So how does gamestop get ps3s? Magic? Clearly it must be some sort of voodoo if you don't order them from sony.

4. Again, gamestop wouldn't be buying them if they weren't selling. If they had a huge stockpile of ps3s that weren't selling they wouldn't order more. Its business 101. And if for some reason they are sending so many ps3s to your store, why don't you tell them to stop?

Well, you kind of get the picture.

Back in July, we had around 8-10 PS3's upstairs and none downstairs, and by the time they sold out we'd have more shipment. It's like a cycle. So it seemed small, but it was steady whichis good.

Over the months, we'd get more shipment then normal and our "stack" would get bigger. Now it's to the point that we have mass quantities. The thing is, it's not like PS3 isn't selling; it is. Sony's campaign is making sure of that. And also, Wii's and 360's are selling more (here and it seems all of America, according to this site). It's backwards-assed, and when I ask my manager things regarding this he shrugs his shoulders.
