Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2011 Jammed Packed a problem??

well 2011 is going to be an crazy year, so everyone take out an loan and set it aside because 2011 has so many games and many more haven't been announced yet with more to come at the VGA.

Developing New IP's take around 3 years to make (well the good ones) and alot of developers would of started these in 2007. but now 3 years later we have an whole bunch of these new IP's or long developed sequels being released along side the yearly franchises and the normal 1-2 year sequels. By just the look of it 2011 is going to be the Biggest year in this Gen for the amount of games.

We have an tonne of new IP's i cant even name them all such as Home front, bullet storm, La Nior etc

Then we have long awaited sequels such as Portal 2, Cysis 2, Gears of War 3, Socom 4, etc

then we have the Sequels such as LBP2, Dead Space 2, killzone 3 etc

and then on top we have the yearly sequels such as Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, NBA 2K, Madden, Fifa, PES etc

And really when looking at the 2011 list there are some Really High quality games. And Publishers aren't really going to be like"we will wait till 2012" because if an game has been in development for around 3 years + publishers cant just keep holding on unless the publisher goes by the name of Sony or take two interactive or Valve

But when you look at all the title and you look at the times and how many games are struggling to the Big yearly franchises. You think that what happens when an heap of them fail to meet the break even sales? despite how good they are???  Then you have used games taking up to 50% of new games sales off some titles you can really think that if 2011 doesn't have an crazy year the game industry is going to be really shaken by this next year.

There will be delays, that's for sure

The indrustry will crash.

It'll end up like every year this gen since 2008. Medium-to-big budget flops all over the place

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

sadly i believe it will happen and the results will be alot of Publishers posting loses and studios closing down

I don't see a problem so far with most genres... but there are too many FPS gamers and 3rd person shooters:  Crysis, KZ3, CoD 8, BCBF2: Vietnam, Bulletstorm, Socom, Gears of War 3, Rage, Homefront, Conduit 2, Uncharted 3(possibly), and heaven knows how many more.

I played 3 new shooters in 2010:  Reach, Black Ops, and Bad Company 2.   In reality, I only need 1 or 2 shooters since online multiplayer is so time-intensive.  In 2011 I have vowed to only play a max of 2 shooters and 1 one of them will certainly be the new CoD game.

Most of my friends are getting locked into the mode of buying CoD annually, CoD is basically Activision's Madden.  These same friends, who used to enjoy games like Halo, are becoming increasingly reluctant to buy many games outside of the top blockbuster hit games.  It is becoming harder every year for new IP games to crack into the mold with so many established franchises out there.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

That's a whole lot of PS3, 360, & PC games. It'll be interesting to see how nintendo will compete on the console front.  I'm not sure Zelda, Conduit2, Grinder, and Pikmin 3 alone can carry the wii for 2011.

There are indeed more and more hits every year, with the sales of titles being distributed among fewer and fewer titles. It's pretty scary tbh, as Christmas seems pretty much reserved for just COD and Assassin's Creed, and we've seen what can happen in summer with one juggernaut (Red Dead Redemption) pretty much canibalizing the sales for everyone else.

I'm not doing much to contribute either, the last game I bought was released in May (Prince of Peria, FS) and I haven't even played it yet, along with Just Cause 2 and Batman:AA. I just can't keep up, and I'll end up playing 2010's biggest games in 2011 lol.

It has plus sides, like games now releasing on a 12 month schdule rather then all at xmas like in the PS2 days, at least. Certainly choking publishers a bit though, I've already got the impression Ubisoft keep delaying Future Warrior simply because they haven't got a clue when the hell to release the thing and for it to be 'safe'.

It's only a matter of time until GTAV comes along and ****s everyone up too lol. Would love to see it launch next xmas between Cod 8 and AC3.

me too, we need someone like EA with BF3 and Take two with an GTA to Crush Call of Duty and Put Ubisoft back into place with Assassins creed.
