Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 sales - why such an increase?

PS3 sales in EMEAA the past several weeks have increased a lot. Anyone know why this is? The only thing I can think of is that it's due to the PS Move, but is that it? Christmas doesn't start affecting sales this early, does it? GT5? But it's official release date was only announced recently. Anyone have any idea?

The increase is about 2 years ago... PS3 was undertracked in EMEAA here.

They made adjustments on sales from up to 2 years ago.

He's asking whats up with the PS3 in Others here lately. Since the Move has released, sales for the PS3 have almost doubled in Others, I guess thats the answer he was looking for.

there were some adjustments from two years ago

also the SONY shipped and VGC sell through numbers were too far apart

this was because SONY was selling consoles in places VGC didn't track and as assumption they posted it near the MOVE's release as an assumed bump

As the guys mentioned: Adjustments.

Please do not think this is trolling or anything like it, but I think VGC does not know exactly where Sony sold (shipped) those PS3s to explain the gap. We do get pretty good data for NA, Japan and sometimes for UK, so it seems like they just put it in EMEAA. I doubt VGC knows where exactly. But that should not discredit the great work VGC did with the tracking in the past years.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

you are absolutely correct

the shipped figures were very different as VGC didn't track it

they put the figures around MOVE's release as an assumption it caused the spike

but the didn't track it

plus the shipped vs VGC gap was even there at before last quarter

so it wasn't MOVE bump as allocated by VGC

VGC just didn't track in those areas

The problem with this is that they didn't just take the sales they mistracked and started tacking them on recent sales to make up for the gap. Thats why adjustments went back 2 years. They adjusted posted numbers from up to 2 years ago to smooth things out, putting the sales where they belonged. That has nothing to do with the fact that PS3 sales seen a huge jump in September. They didn't take all of the mistracked sales and just start adding them onto the numbers starting september to make up for what was miscounted.

The OP didn't ask why the gap suddenly shrank on the charts, he's asking why EMEAA sales are so high for the last few weeks.

For example, here are the sales from August until current (Worldwide):

Aug 1-7: 175,816

Aug 8-14: 184,177

Aug 15-21: 166,335

Aug 22-28: 165,168

Aug 29-Sept 4: 163,948

Sept 5-11: 150,805

Sept 12-18: 198,157

Sept 19-25: 207,959

Sept 26-Oct 2: 238,977

Oct 3-9: 240,719

Oct 10-16: 235,471

Oct 17-23: 232,770

Oct 24-30: 270,345

Oct 31-Nov 6: 304,183

PS Move released Sept 15/17 in EMEAA and Americas respectively, and on October 21st in Japan. Look at the numbers for these dates.

yes there has been an increase since the MOVE

it will boom all next year when SCE will bombard with an tonne of exclusives

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Don't fool yourself. It's not an increase due to Move.

If a console has been undertracked and you want to adjust the sales you put the increase to the last few weeks in not to screw up the past too much (because else it would ruin the logic behind several sales analysis threads and articles you've produced).

It caused by the run up to christmas - lots of retailers having promotions, sony putting some money into advertising for move and playstation in general.  Train stations near me are plastered with ps3 posters.  There are move demonstrations in big shopping centres/stores around my area as well.  Happens most years.
