Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Should I get Mass Effect if I don't like shooters

It's as much to the Third Party Shooter as Oblivion was to a First Person Shooter.

Answer: you play it how you want. Like others have said, if you want litterally no shooter elements, you can do that with playing as an Adept, Engineer, or anything focused on Techs and/or Biotics. My Vanguard (the most well-balanced class in the game) got extremely anti-gunning near the end, with the fact there were so many biotic powers to use.

Of course, you can play it as a full Gears of War-type shooter, but thats merely optional.

Don't let the TPS elements dissuade you. Just pick it up, and enjoy what is a phenominal RPG.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Awesome. Thanks for the info guys. I think I will pick it up in the next week.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
