Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Windows Phone 7 in-depth preview

Nothing on battery life?

Nothing on browser speed comparisons?

Nothing on XBL games?

I'm definitely interested though - I wonder if the Zune marketplace will be available everywhere now? I hope they add a 'Swype' text app before it releases as well.

My phone has copy and paste and I have never used it.  I could care less.  As for multitasking,  I am one who thinks the OS should take good care to ensure the memory and cpu usage doesn't bring the phone to a halt.  My Droid Eris started out ok, but now that it was updated to 2.1, it chugs on every damn thing I do.  I wished the phone killed all processes once I leave them.  Really wish my contract was up so I could get a new phone.

have you tried appkiller from the marketplace?

I thought Flash and Silverlight will be supported out of the box... Is this just a beta phone?

silverlight will be included in rtm, as for flash it is supposed to release in the future, let's just hope that Microsoft surprises us.

Yeah.  There are several programs that refuse to stay closed.  There is a Stocks program that keeps processing and it is a default program I cannot delete.  There is no option in the program itself to stop background processing.  I think the phone is just a low end POS.

i see, have you considered putting a custom rom on it?  my dad's htc hero and my brothers's evo both have custom roms which add more functions and better performance.  it isnt a hard process at all, and may make you love your phone all over again.

also you can go back to 1.5 if your root it.

For a Beta phone it seems much more responsive than any Smartphone out now.

Xbox Live intergration is the sauce for me. It's the only phone that will have it. So it's the only phone I'll be buying from now.

Simples.

Apple's already conered this market. I'm not sure if microsoft can really get a strong foothold in this market.

If Xbox Live intergration is good. As well as Zune Pass ( which if on 360 you already have it, you can access on your phone to ) Many 360 owners will see huge benefits in owning this over Iphone. M$ have to make sure they take this already great beta phone previewed here and tweak any points mentioned.

It would seem they beat Apple in UI for phones with their design and touch screen.

M$ have to start now. Zune pass is a monthly cost. It works on PC, 360 and now Windows phone 7. 1 monthly payment gives you access to music in your car, Home, bedroom and phone all for 1 payment.

More people have PC's than Macs. Apple dont have a console out, and will never have access to Xbox Live.

If Kinect gets mainstream, M$ could advertise on the 360 itself the benefits of having WM7 over any other smartphone. Dont underestimate Live. M$ have over 27 million Gold subscribers ( paying ).

If they do this right, the benefits to 360 owners, Pc owners and WM7 owners will be a major plus over any other smart phone.

I think this was M$ original plan with Live all along.

Also then Bing could become huge. As that is the search engine on the phones. Which is great. It may be a new engine, but currently it doesnt have all that BS that clogs up the old engines like Google and Yahoo.

I wouldn't say Apple has cornered anything in the smartphone market.

Google is gaing on apple with the same strategy that PC's used to beat Macs in the early 90s. Lots of devices... they should take over Iphones marketshare by the end of the year. Especially with Iphone 4 issues...

RIM as well is beating Apple in the smartphone sales.

With that said, I am not sure howmuch room there is for WM7 to make noise in the market.

I don't have an Iphone, but most everyone I know does. It's the most popular smartphone,at least in America it is. I personally went the the droid phone, from verizon, just to be different. lol
