      I forgot to mention:

All without significant negative consequences. For example, Portugal's complete decriminalization program, coupled with increased drug treatment programs has actually seen a decline in drug use. Here's an added bonus, in the years following the decriminalization they are reporting fewer new cases of HIV annually.

Yet another addendum. Legalization would allow the government to replace those ridiculous fear mongering adds with proper education on this matter. This would serve to further reduce the harm caused by drug use as many individuals are currently unaware of the real risks involved with abusing these substances. These users know that they are being lied to but have no alternative to find potentially life saving information. I can honestly see no benefits to drug prohibition (or any other form of prohibition for that matter).

I'd add to the point that drug prohibition only raises usage, not only from the whole "illegal" factor that drives some people to try such things, but also drug cartels and dealers forcibly getting people addicted to the stuff.

Both great points, kudos for being one of the sane ones.

To answer your question, I support the legalization of drugs. Doing so would:

      1. Eliminate the largest source of income for organized criminals.
      2. Allow for regulation which would eliminate the contaminants that result in many, if not the majority of drug related deaths.
      3. Allow drug users to seek proper treatment without fear of prosecution.
      4. Reduce the number of criminals being processed in the legal system, freeing up the courts, law enforcement officials and prison system.
      5. Reduce the costs associated with the above point while providing additional income through taxation.
      6. Additionally, there would be further benefits related to the above points. For example, there would be fewer deaths caused by drug cartels because a drastic reduction in revenue would cause their organizations to collapse.

I'm glad you have a logically sound and just reasoning towards drug legalisation. the reason why I asked is that because many who argue that gun control will create a bigger black market for guns are absolutely against any type of drug legalisation. Hypocrisy, I know...

I might not agree with your political views but you are one of the few people on this site that has any semblance of reason when it comes to firearms.
