When will DS lose its momentum?!

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007

(a giant dead market is bigger competition than any Sony or Microsoft like company... oh and there was the Master System)... Super NES had no competition? (Megadrive/Genesis? Biggest console war in history?) Sony had no competition with the biggest game company at this time and Sega, too?...

    3rd Party Sales in Japan (360, Wii, PS3) - Top 10

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007

This is one of the many reasons Nintendo can't secure third parties, and one of the reasons why they will finish third. Even EA admits they can't outdo Nintendo on a Nintendo system....

    "Resource shift to the Wii"

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007
RolStoppable said: Nintendo has proven itself already with the DS. What can work for a handheld can work for a console. It's only getting better and better for Nintendo from now on and therefore worse for especially Sony.
If that were the case, GBC developers would have jumped to N64, and GBA developers would have jumped to Cube. Two different markets. Two different...

When will DS lose its momentum?!

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007
Erik Aston said: First of all, PSP isn't hugely profitable. It was supposed to buoy PlayStation financially during the early years of PS3 and wind-down of PS2. Thats not happening. Furthermore, while getting 35-40% marketshare (which its falling below already, btw) is nice, "getting a foothold in the market" as you seem to be implying is nonsense. Every market leader in VG history...

    "Resource shift to the Wii"

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007

If developers are going with the proven horse, that's PS3. Strong launch or not. Developers didn't drop everything when Gamecube had a massive launch, nor were they bowled over when N64 was outselling PSX. Nintendo still has a long way to go to prove itself with the development community. Not that it can't be done, but a couple good months doesn't change the status quo. Microsoft has been getting...

When will PS3 lose its momentum?!

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007
HappySqurriel said:The problem wasn't cartridges ... The problem was using a technology (that was in some ways superior) which did not line-up with the gaming style that consumers wanted.
While I view technology as the potential achilles heel with Wii, with N64, every developer had jumped ship before the system was even launched. Nobody bothered to give them a chance....

Not so much love as mild attraction. Perfect way to utilize Wii....

When will DS lose its momentum?!

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007

I'm waiting for DS to gain momentum, as it's definitely a far cry from GBA outside Japan, though to be fair, GBC had faded more than GBA has. This year should be a lot stronger than last, though. As for Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if it starts to fade (to some extent) within the next year. The simple issue of market saturation prevents it from selling at this pace for much longer. Its total...

When will PS3 lose its momentum?!

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007

PS3 has to gain momentum before we can worry about it losing it, which will happen eventually. You don't go from first to worst overnight. Unless you release a system with carts. We're looking at least at a 6 year lifespan and then another year or two tacked on before it starts to fade. I do think the more interesting question is when it will gain momentum, and I would agree with fall. I don't...

    Wii Production Increase in April

in Sales Discussion on 25 March 2007

Despite some predictions that the system will sell 800 billion units, Nintendo's smart enough to know otherwise. Unless this thing has some serious legs, current production's plenty going forward, at least until Christmas, so I would not expect a substantial boost....
