Of course the main culprit was SEGA themselves, but since the OP asked for competitors, Sony. Their pricing strategy with PS1/2 was still something the other two weren’t accustomed to, and Sony money whipped a lot of third parties.

But yeah, the mistakes of their past is what ruined SEGA. The DC actually had an incredible library of games, great online play, and cool peripherals but SEGA didn’t have money to continue.

I also don’t agree with people saying that maybe without a third competitor, SEGA could have found a niche and survived. That wasn’t their style. Also look what has happened since they became third party. They still make some good games but the overall quality is nothing like it used to be.

Agree on Sega doing the first blow to themselfs, it began with the Sega Cd it sold 2 million it did good but they made the 32x which bombed hard and everybody hated it including me, then the Sega Saturn was revealed in e3 Sega would be around if Sega Saturn announce their price after Sony PS1 they would of recouperated what the 32x had done but PS1 wanted to make a statement and that statement caused alot of damage to Sega and Nintendo, I voted for Sega not Sony, I just hate that the PS1 reveal was an angry reveal towards Sega and Nintendo, but I forgive them things happen and so PS2 was created and Sega dreamcast birth Microsoft Xbox uninterntionally with Dreamcast + windows CE

Cute and honest Sega Saturn fan, also noone should buy Sega grrrr, Sega for life.
