Not at all. For season passes you're buying from a reputable company with a track record of delivering and you know that you'll get a refund if they don't release the content promised (or at least successfully sue them for a refund if they don't offer one automatically).

As for preorders, usually you don't pay for the preorder until the game actually ships. Unless that's different in America? If Americans pay the day that they preorder...
