The mistake you and the the video's creator are making is assuming these people are republicans. Trump and his flunkies are not republicans. They have no political ideology. Trump's only goal is to benefit Trump, and the only goal of people like Lin Wood is to keep him in power for as long as possible so they advantage of his position for their benefit. If holding the republican party hostage suits that goal, so be it.
Identifying as republican was a means to an end. If Trump believed it was in his personal interest, he'd be waving rainbow flags, calling for free college, signing executive orders to ban assault rifles, etc. If he thought being a liberal was the way to power, he'd make Bernie Sanders look like Rand Paul.
