Nor was "National Socialism" related to Socialism ideologically or etymologically.
Socialism, as is commonly known in English, is a leftist form of economic organization that advocates for the working-class control of the economy and the abolition of the class system. It comes from the word "Social."
National Socialism is the ideological descendent (though not synonymous) with Bismarck's pro-conservative State Socialism. It is named for the social scientists who designed it and used by the Liberal party to mock Bismarck. Bismarck did his best to not only ban socialism but to arrest its proponents and ideological leaders.
National socialism is an ideology that identified the ownership of society by the so-called Aryan Master Race. Instead of equality, it codified hierarchy - which is the opposite of leftism. They subjected those on the bottom rungs to slavery, starvation, and various means of forced euthanization for those deemed unfit for slavery.
The people trying to equate the two fall in one or both of the following categories:
* The historically illiterate
* Right-wingers lying to push an agenda of equating leftism with Nazism. And largely this group is historically illiterate, a symptom of their general academic illiteracy.
This profound historical inaccuracy regarding Nazi ideology being a type of leftist socialism is on the level of those who passionately claim that the moon landing was fake news, that the holocaust was fake news, and that the Earth is flat.
