I'd never thought of ReCore as a 3D Metroidvania game, but you are right. I thought it was a decent game that didn't quite live up to its potential. Ori was great due to its art style and fluid controls. Funny enough I don't care for Metroid or Castlevania. 

The Definitive edition of Recore  fix or improve a lots of the flaws the games has. 

With bigger budget and more work, Recore has the potencial to be a great IP.
