That's all shallow, insincere, box-ticking and pandering. Liberals don't care about gays, transgender people, or anything other than power. Same with Conservatives, really. They shamelessly hop on trends all the time. It's a marketing ploy. Anything to appear cool and virtuous.

Wow, you conservatives will just make anything up to act like your opponents are just as bigoted as you! As a person who lives in a VERY liberal country, with very liberal leaders and very liberal (or just, you know, decent) people...I can assure you that 'liking gay people' isn't just some play for power. It's almost like...and get this, it's hard I know...some people are just good people that want love, passion, and equality for all.

But no, in your mind - and the mind of so, SO many people like you - it's not about actually wanting the world to be a better place, it's just some conspiracy to appeal to the people who do...want...the world to be a better place? Your conspiracy falls apart before you finish the first sentence. How the hell could a conspiracy wherein 'liberals' are just 'pandering' to gay people get ANY traction if only the LGBTQ+ population voted for them? the LGBTQ+ population is less than 20% (Last I heard it was 5-7%), so why pander to them? It makes no sense, unless you accept that...and this is tough...PEOPLE ACTUALLY CARE AND ARE SICK OF MINORITIES BEING SHIT ON ALL THE TIME.

But, no. Never. In the mind of so many conservatives, the very concept of actually caring about other people is completely foreign to them. The idea that people could vote to give OTHER people rights that aren't themselves is alien to a conservative. that's why so many 'conservative' values are just masked as ways for old, bigoted people to have their bigotry forgiven or accepted. So many conservative or right-wing policies revolve around the idea of the INDIVIDUAL, not the COLLECTIVE. Personal responsibility, guns, tradition over progression, established gender roles, religion, capitalism. The entire thesis behind modern right wing policies is 'we liked it the way it was and we don't want change.' which translates to 'we liked it better when we could call out dem queers and fags and (other racial expletives I won't even write to prove a point), and treat women like our property; all of this social progress is hindering my ability to be a bigoted, ignorant shitbag so I'm just gonna rant about how feminism and faggots are ruining amurrica'

I really, REALLY wish what I was saying wasn't true, but it's so consistent and pervasive in modern culture. all of these policies that the Republicans are pushing seem to exist solely to resist change that would give rights to minorities or women, or outright take away rights those minorities have been given, or to give those who don't wish to support these minorities the rights to be a dick about it.

Whatever happened to the right wing policies that were about personal freedom, responsibility and expression? the Republican party used to be about freedom from government control (That's actually what the political right used to represent and the basis for right-wing politics. Leaning to the right means less government interference whereas the left at its core means more government involvement), but now it's about being free from all that progress that the government and society have been pushing for so long. Republicans don't stand for what they're supposed to, they resist change and push outdated morals and values because they liked it the way it used to be, not the way it's going to be. you know, when women stayed in the kitchen, blacks sat at the back of the bus, anyone who didn't go to church was a degenerate, and fags got beat to death for wanting to love another man.
