It's certainly a tougher milestone now than expected just a year or two ago. If Xbox X Series eats into Xbox One too much, it probably won't hit 50 million. If the new console doesn't take off too hot and/or Xbox One gets some steep discounts, it should be able to limp pass 50 million...but just barely.
