I wonder how much of the Force Awakens hate is genuine and how much of it is just "It's popular so it sucks" bandwagoning. I genuinely enjoyed it and Rogue One. Maybe not quite as much at any of the original trilogy movies, but they're still leaps and bounds better than the prequels. Phantom Menace will always be the weakest of the Star Wars movies, and was the only one where I walked out of the theater less than impressed.
I personally don't think TFA, Rogue One, or the prequels are as bad as people on the internet like to say they are. TFA and Rogue One are solid 8's, and even the worst of the prequels is a 7/10 imo. I guess people just had too high of expectations for TFA and Rogue One, though why they would after the prequels I don't really know. Recapturing the magic of the original trilogy is quite difficult, so expecting that magic for these new movies is a mistake for sure. If episode 8 captures that same magic as the original trilogy that'll be great, but if you go in on Friday expecting it, you only have yourself to blame if the movie ends up disappointing you.
