It will save me having to buy an NX and a nintendo 9th gen since the games will very likely go multi platform sega style. Your thoughts and console/s?

If Nintendo leaves hardware, they will probably make games for Smartphones. Don't expect the games to turn up on PS4 or X1.

They've got games like mario kart,  Smash, Splatoon and pokemon that would likely sell around 10m each on ps4/X1/pc.

If they went smartphone only they'd be crazy.

Pokemon was never on home console. It would be fit very fine on smartphone. Also Mario Kart and Smash are easy to do for smartphone and tablets. Only Splatoon would probably die.

Games are a lot more expensive to develop for WiiU, than for 3DS. For phones and tablets the costs would decrease again. Nintendo is already experimenting with free to play and other models on 3DS and develops for smartphones. I see them rather giving up on home console, because handheld games sell so much better and cost so much less for them. So if they fail on their own hardware, they would be stupid to enter another very cost-intensive and risky development area. I expect them to concentrate on handhelds, but IF they give up on hardware there is no longer a dedicated gaming handheld, so they would logically concentrating on the game business they already expanding into: phones and tablets.
