Gun Monkey developer's advice to indies: "don’t make multiplayer games"

Comments2

Gun Monkeys is a barrel of laughs. Something to play for an hour every now and again with a mate.  It sold enough to cover costs and got good reviews, but Size Five Games’ Dan Marshall’s advice to indie devs contemplating a multiplayer game is simple: don’t do it.

f you’re an indie developer, don’t make multiplayer games,” Marshall says in a blog post. “There are exceptions, naturally, but by-and-large the number of customers you’re ever likely to get simply isn’t there to support it.”

Comments1

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare is due out on June 24th. It’s also grown micro-transactions, likely thanks to a change in water and plant food. EA announced the addition to the not free-to-play game last month, and it’s already come into effect.

The cost of in-game currency is not astronomical, nor is buying this stuff necessary to progress. But it’s worth remembering that Garden Warfare already costs money to buy.

The Lost Vikings and Rock N’ Roll Racing have both been brought out of retirement, and best of all, you won’t have to spend a penny to play them.

Both can be downloaded from the Battle.net account page or here if you don’t have an account. If you do grab them from your account page, switch the region to Americas, no matter what region you’re actually in.

The least you could do: Minimum has a free weekend before it moves to Early Access

Comments1

Minimum has had a rather rocky development. Originally developed by TimeGate, it ended up in limbo when the studio declared bankruptcy, but was then pulled out of the bankruptcy proceedings by Atari, after which it was handed to Human Head. It makes you worry about what state the game is going to be in. But you need not worry for long. Not only is it heading to Steam Early Access soon, it’s also available this weekend for free. The free weekend kicked off earlier today, and you can grab a key over at Gamepedia

"WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA," warns the DayZ Steam page. "Please do not purchase it unless you want to actively support development of the game and are prepared to handle with serious issues and possible interruptions of game functioning.

In fairness, if you're prepared to deal with a zombie-filled island, limited resources, and a near-psychotic horde of players, what's a few bugs?
