I really think Switch still has a pretty good chance of peaking this year.

I really, really doubt that. In the middle of a global pandemic, where retailers will be shut down in many places?

I mean... it was still doing 200k++ after China stopped production, now it's back up.

It did over 800k when there is lockdown WW rn.. i'm sure it will still do pretty well, people don't have to go buy it at the store. Also, a lockdown really is a good time to invest in a gaming console and the only one really relevant rn is the Switch.

Even factoring in online retailers, I just can't see a system peaking in the year of the worst pandemic in over a century.

Not to mention they have yet to prove they have any more major system-selling games for the rest of the year.

ye its going to fall off the cliff this year, no games, no buyers and amazing competition

That's the thing, this time their schedule literally has no more major system selling games for the entire year. Granted, that doesn't mean there won't be any, but they have yet to prove there will be any.

You bolded the wrong part.  Here, let me help.

Because I never claimed it would fall off a cliff. I just pointed out that, as of now "no games" is actually pretty accurate. Not literally, just like Wii U didn't literally have "no games" in 2016, no major system sellers are currently scheduled.

one thing to note is that this week was the biggest week for the switch, PERIOD, in japan. Yep, bigger than launch week.

for AC:NH, its one of the best opening weeks in japan PERIOD, and this segment is populated mostly by pokemon, older FF, or DQ titles.
did I meantion its only counting phisical when this game will probably have a high digital ratio?

It's a joke.  You don't remember a certain member infatuated with Nintendo always on the edge of falling off a cliff?  Kirby set up a joke for you.

I remember Cliffy Rick well, I'm just hopeless at telling when people are just joking. XD

He got you focusing on the "no games" part.  Read everything else he wrote.  I'll take the "no games" part out.

"ye its going to fall off the cliff this year, no buyers and amazing competition"

That does sound like a quickrick line haha. But seriously all I said was I couldn't see it peaking this year with the pandemic and all.

apparently over 2.5 milion including digital according to some sources for AC:NH

That's Japan only.

I could see it peaking in Japan this year, but not the rest of the world. Nintendo needs to find a way win over Europe. Hopefully there is a sportsball switch exclusive coming out soon because that could really help.

Absolute monster, imagine the impact without corona..

Are we sure Corona didn't help somewhat? I know it gave Switch some production constraints but were they expecting these numbers?

Anecdotely there was a lot of social media buzz about using Animal as a replacement for going outside, we've also seen how use for netflix and other home entertainment has shot through the roof. Switch seems like the perfect device for quarantine, just a thought.

Corona aside I think social media played a vital role in the increased success, I've never paid attention to an animal crossing game until now but I can't escape it on twitter lol
