You get a candybar AND something extra for an already contentfilled game, there are worse greedy practices and like usual these items probably do not even matter that much in the game or would not exist without the marketing deal.

This is kinda good marketing.

Locking DLC this way is a greedy practice. Not every country has them. Some people are allergic. Some people are diabetic. This is just another way of making microtransactions and someone tries to defend it because "optional" as if there ever was a good excuse for them.

The excuse is profit in the form of something extra with a product, you are the one that can not prove this takes away from the game and this game in general is not a lazy made game so calling this greed is going way over the top.

MTX are bullshit. AAA devs can eat shit with MTX. All MTX are shit and there are zero excuses for them in any way shape or form no matter how someone tries to spin it. End of.  Imagine years down the line buying the game and the promotion ended a long time ago. You can't get that extra content. Hell, not even years. Just a couple months after release..unless you pay eBay scalper prices. People who support MTX are the reason EA thinks "surprise mechanics" are just fine and other AAA publishers all the same.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Such irony. A major message within Final Fantasy VII was anti greed... and here Square is taking Final Fantasy VII and;

1) Splitting the game into episodes

2) Putting materia behind a paywall via deluxe edition

3) Promoting MTX requiring a purchase of an item not even related to gaming

Shameful

As somebody who considers FFVII (and has bought 3 versions of the game) one of the best games created, I have real concerns.  Given items #1-3, I worry Final Fantasy VII will be a fetch quest bloated game covered with MTX after MTX.  I don't like the direction.

Of course, im in China. No such thing as butterfingers over here. At least I got rice to go with my FFVII remake

Beware that corona virus out there.

Butterfinger?

Ughhh, WHY ON EARTH would a company name themselves after the infamous scene from Last Tango in Paris?

And a CHOCOLATE BAR of all things!

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I love Crunch, but those are some crappy rewards.

Games don't need to have insane budgets tho. I've had friends who worked in AAA development tell me games could easily cost $40-50 but AAA devs have bloated budgets. Having insanely massive teams of 1000 people then do crunch costs a lot more than a smaller team no crunch and takes more time. Another thing is all these in house engines. Square blew a wad on the engine for FFXV only to abandon it in favor of UE4 for everything else. Platinum has been using the same engine for a decade, they just keep modifying it and that's a good way to do things. On the Flipside, we have EA forcing Frostbite in everything and it's not working out.

It is evenly ridiculous to bring EA into this argument about Square-Enix as bringing EA into the same kind of argument about Nintendo, how do you think about amiibos?

Square-Enix and Nintendo both do still deliver good value in their games so a small side-marketing like the butterfinger or others holds no weight,if they deliver a good product for the price it does not matter.(and it is no MTX)
