Forums - Website Topics - Report All Advertisment Issues Here

There isn't a single user on this site (unless they're a Supporter or are using an adblocker) that hasn't gotten hit with an inappropriate or site-breaking advertisement (or even one that's just an over the top, distraction) at one time or another...    ...and there isn't a single admin on this site, that isn't already aware of the problem! So, what I'd like to do is start one thread and have ALL advertisement issues reported here. This will help us:

  1. Keep all of the advertisement issues contained within one thread, rather than scattered across dozens of other theads where they will likely never be looked at or even thought about.
  2. Gather up enough evidence of how bad the problem is for some users, so that ioi has one place to see what's going on.
  3. Determine whether this is something we can perhaps adjust ourselves, or whether the ad-provider has to be the one to fix.

I do want to be perfectly clear here and hopefully keep everybody grounded in reality - there is no promise that any of this will be fixed (short or long term) or that if you simply yell and scream at us, change will come. As I said in the opening, we are all very aware of the problems that come up from time to time - but we're also limited to how much we can do about it. Only ioi will make the final call on any ad changes - so the goal here is to try and document some of the worst offenders, fix what we can, and have ioi see for himself what's going on.

PLEASE - always try to include a screenshot, the OS, and the browser you are using whenever you come across a situation that you are looking to report! Screenshots are the absolute BEST way to help us see exactly what's going on, why it's a problem, and figure out whether it's something we can adjust. If the issue happens to be on a mobile device and you're not sure how to do a screenshot (and you've at least attempted to Google for directions), feel free to post the device and browser you are using and somebody will likely be able to help you figure out how to do a screencapture on that device.

Thanks everyone!!!

I've been a supporter for about 18 months now. It's the best money I've ever spent. The ads were driving me crazy before. Now, there ain't a single one, ever.

In some ways it is sad that I have to give money to a website for it to work properly. On the other hand, nothing in life is free. Since I use the site a lot, I don't mind paying a few bucks.

Well, if you think about it, dealing with the ads while you're browsing the website is (in a way) giving money to the website - you're just doing it in an indirect way because you're not spending actual money. Ad views & clicks generate money for the website, you just don't have to send it...  :)

If your an android user and not too concerned with what browser you're using, then use a browser with a built in adblocker, I personally use Brave and haven't had any issues with ads on this site when I'm logged out. You shouldn't really be put in a position of having to buy supporter to just have a usable site in some cases and I say that as a supporter.

I agree - hence the reason for this thread.

I would obviously prefer if people avoided using adblockers, but how can I blame them if they're getting inundated with NSFW ads or videos that suddely SCREAM at you or ads that blockbreak functionality???

So - yeah, hopefully some good with come of this thread allowing us to fix the ads that we can (I already fixed the issue with the ad showing up in the richtext editor in forum replies) and either reporting the ones we can't directly to the ad provider or discussing with ioi in hopes of a compromise...

Well, I hate to immediately break the request for a screenshot, but this one that is outright site breaking when I browse from my phone (Android OS, Chrome browser). I don't actually post from my phone, just browse, so can only describe it.

It's an Adidas.com/predator ad. It runs a full video and then just stays on the screen after playing, rendering the site unusable even if I wait out the ad. Whenever it starts, all I can do is back up and reload. Except it usually just runs again. The only method I've figured out to prevent it so far is to hit the "stop loading the page" X button before it can run.

Here's the Youtube video of the ad:

There's not much to describe for what's on my screenshot anyway.  There's an Adidas banner at the top.  Below it is the VGchartz bar (the only way you'd know I was on your site).  It says "advertisement" right below that, and the whole rest of the screen is the above video or a title card if it's already played.

I'd agree with that, if the ads didn't break the site.  I am completely fine with advertising in general.  I think it is a great way to pay for content.  But, on this site, a user "pays" by viewing ads, but sometimes can't access the content he paid for because of those ads.

I'm going to follow this thread as well. I did some changes about two weeks ago about ads that were preventing typing a rich-text reply on mobile but it had mixed results as those ads are varied and one fix might work for one and not others.
