Experts are starting to hint at the possibility that the virus will mutate like the common flu and recur every year, so immunities will be redundant and vaccines unusable every year forever, this could be our new normal unless we eradicate it on a World scale

The flu has a vaccine that's used every year though. I don't know if they need to change it slightly or whatever, but regardless there is a yearly flu vaccine. It's even given out for free every year in the UK to vulnerable/elderly people.

"New versions of the vaccines are developed twice a year, as the influenza virus rapidly changes."

Pretty much just reaffirms the idea that Trump is an idiot

Maybe not an idiot, but for sure an egotistical, narcissistic megalomaniac who doesn't, and visibly can't, care about anything but himself.

Pretty sure that he is also an idiot, otherwise he'd make a better effort to hide his true nature.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

1) every year they make a "new" vaccine to offer to the elderly and at risk (when they assume a newer strain hits).

2) they cant give vaccines for everything, so they try to "guess" which flu will spread and hit their country in advance, and vaccinate before then.
This means they sometimes "guess" wrong, ei. you give them a vaccine that doesnt help against the flu that actually hit you.

3) even with a vaccine against the flu, your not 100% safe.  Some of these are like 30% effective.

Theres already 3+ strains of coronavirus (covid19) out there (and 1000's of mutations).
This means that a american vaccine that works against the american version of this virus, might not work against the european one, and vice versa.

Its a mess.

yet his brazen open awfulness is what got him elected, but lets not make this thread more about him than necessary

Looks like the price of gasoline is gonna be dirt cheap real soon.

I would be happy if the cheap price in Europe would at least reach the normal price of gasoline in the USA but even that will only be a dream 😅

Only 8 additional cases today in Luxembourg, it's clearly slowing down here, with recoveries starting to outpace new infections. Sadly, also 2 new deaths, bringing the tally up to 75, close to 2% of the total deaths in a year in Luxembourg (~4300 deaths per year in Luxembourg right now).

Since today every single citizen in the country got a package with 5 N95 masks from the government, and need to wear those when going shopping, for instance. Companies also got entire boxes of masks for their employees at work.

And during this week, all retirement homes and the like will get thoroughly tested, with all their inhabitants and employees getting tested in one go to make sure the most vulnerable people to the virus are not getting in direct contact with infected persons. That's a grand total of 11000 tests just for them in one week. Keep in mind that the country has made "only" 34k tests (only because that's over 5% of the population already) in total until now.

Finally, it's clear that the Luxembourgian health system is very robust, as our hospitals still have free capacities. We got some NATO tents as a potential Lazaret a couple weeks ago, but it's still mostly empty. It gets used for separation of potential Covid patients in waiting of their test results (which are performed in situ), but strictly speaking that wouldn't have been necessary so far.

Also, I really need to share this:

But like with every virus you do not always need the exact strain + mutations, just something that is close enough but weaker for the body to be able to build resistance against it that it can ultimately use against the strains and mutations that are dangerous when needed.

I greatly lack knowledge because to grasp it more clearly there are so many aspects to consider and i and assumingly most in this thread are no professors in this branch but this virus is not necessarily more difficult than others to find a vaccine for given the bolded part of your information.
