So, who wants to put money on an overhauled Anthem being EA's big play for this holiday?

It's a distinct possibility, but I'm not sure if they have enough time to overhaul it, they only announced the overhaul in February. Which would give it less than a year before a Holiday 2020 re-release. Square's Final Fantasy 14 took them 3 years to overhaul after it's initial release, and while I doubt that EA would be willing to spend 3 years overhauling Anthem, I feel like they probably need more than 9 months to pull it off. But it would make sense from a business perspective, as EA doesn't seem to have a big game for this Holiday. Next Battlefield is 2021, Dragon Age 4 has only had a year and a half of development since it was rebooted so it is probably 2021 or early 2022, Jedi Fallen Order 2 is 2022, there is no Star Wars Battlefront 3 in development, Titanfall seems to be dead. If EA wants something besides sports titles for the next gen launch, it pretty much has to be a revamped Anthem.

I know it hasn't been all that long since they officially announced, but I recall reading an article from Schreier quite a bit earlier, talking about them working on an overhaul. I reckon they'll have had a little over a year or so by the time it would relaunch. FF14 isn't really the best comparison either, as we're not talking about a full scale MMO here, nor is it likely that EA would ever commit to such a complete and drastic redesign. Plus, as you said, they don't have much in the way of feasible projects to showcase themselves this year to start the new console generation - outside of their baby step sports franchises - so unless they wanna basically look absent, they gotta throw something out there.

Getting an overhauled Anthem in on the ground floor of next gen consoles also has a high potential upside, if you've actually done a halfway decent job this time.

So no teases on what is coming to Game Pass this month. A bit of a shame. Unless "2 and 2" is a tease for something.

Could be two sequels. We already know we are getting Red Dead Redemption 2, not sure what the 2nd might be. Seems too soon for Yakuza Kiwami 2 since we just got Kiwami 1 last month.

If it is actually referring to 2 sequels I think Resident Evil 2 is very likely since it's been at bargain bin prices for almost a year now so probably a good time for Capcom to put in into Gamepass and the other been Red Dead Redemption 2 we already know about.

The hype is real. Still have some hope for Infinite on Thursday.

So...

May - Series X Gameplay Showcase
July - XGS Showcase.

Curious they aren't saying what is for June, maybe Series S Gameplay Showcase?

June is for 5 Studio acquisitions  so we can have 20in20 and announce their new games in the July first party showcase.

So June we should get a features and UI rundown.

I honestly don't expect much from this inside Xbox that's coming up. I will never expect much from an inside Xbox.

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of how much stuff is getting spread out. MS E3 was 90+ minutes of condensed awesomeness, now we have the same stuff we'd usually get at E3 spread out over 4 months or more. And it's not just a Microsoft problem, coronavirus cancelling E3 has the entire industry spreading out announcements more and I really don't like it. Things had better go back to normal for E3 2021.

Agreed. When you put on one big show, you're pretty much guaranteed to see at least a few things you care about, every day, for the duration of the show. What we're gonna be getting this summer, at least on paper, makes me think I'll see maybe a few things I care about every month, surrounded by lots of shit I don't, and lots of talk about how there's more to come real soon.

Personally I like it, yeah E3 hype was cool and everything, I did enjoy that week of gaming news but at the same time, I used to complain a lot that Microsoft used to every year act as if E3 was the only event that existed, we'd get news at E3 then have to wait an entire year for more which sucked.

I'm liking that the news is spread out, I wish it was reversed order but I get why 3rd party is first and sure it sucks that XGS is in July but at the same time we're also getting news a month earlier than we would have if E3 still existed.

We'll have something new to talk about each month, then Gamescom in August, Microsoft typically does nothing for September - October but now they will, I doubt X020 will happen this year but who knows, maybe just an Inside Xbox launch event.

Thing is, that had very little to do with MS not caring about any other time of the year, and everything to do with the fact that they didn't have the firepower to go and do a bunch of other events/announcements without sacrificing the impact of their E3....and Phil doesn't wanna come out of E3 with everybody writing about how MS lost it again.

According to shinobi the XGS was pushed to July because covid. The teams needed more time to prepare.
