Completely different situation, though.  When Nintendo announced it was going to make mobile games, it was in a bad situation.  The Wii U had utterly flopped and the 3DS was doing just ok.  Not really hard to see why people might think they would move towards mobile gaming if the gaming market hadn't taken to the Switch.  But, they did, so Nintendo consoles are going to be around for the foreseeable future, with Nintendo dropping a few games here or there on mobile.

"Completely different situation". Yep. Nintendo was putting downgraded, money-making apps on smartphones for promotional purposes. Sony is (reportedly) putting upgrades of their biggest IP on a rival platform.
Everyone knows Nintendo has a warchest that will last them 'til forever. They weren't going anywhere.

Sony, on the other hand, is moving toward another gen having just come off the massive success of the PS4, now the 2nd best selling home console.  They, just like Nintendo, know they need exclusives to help push that system.  And Sony doesn't care if MS is ahead in the sub wars, unless it is drastically so or if they are doing it by continuing to give away subs for $1.  Sony wants to sell HW and SW, as well as keep full priced subbers around.  Giving their games away for $1 isn't exactly something they are going to be into.

Sony's growth in sales this gen has come directly at MS's expense. Sony's best case scenario going forward is picking up another 20-30m users from MS and a software boost of ~20-30%. 20% growth is nothing to sniff at but if MS doesn't have a horrible gen this time, Sony could quite easily lose 50m+ users to them again.

Steam, MS, Nintendo, Android and iOS all have ecosystems that span different types of hardware. If Sony's or all home consoles take a downturn then Sony has no option but to sit it out while everyone else has an alternative.

Putting their games on PC could easily result in double the sales for some of their 1st party titles.
Sony definitely wanted to sell HW when it came with their DVD/Bluray player. I'm not so sure they do now.
Amazon Prime's introductory price is $0.

Like I said, this is a 3 year old game.  It's not that big of a deal.  Maybe the time table will move up to 1 year.  Still, if you don't want to wait, you'll have to buy a PS5.  Heck, maybe their games won't do that well on PC, so they won't even bother porting them over.  Only time will tell.

Sony's IPs will do great on PC. Any goodwill they lose from the Sony faithful will be more than made up by what they gain from PC gamers.
