I suppose MS paid them, Shit they paid every reviewer out there to give PS3 (and Wii) games bad scores.

No fucking way a game could be mediocre on the PS3, No way!

It's not the PS3's fault for somebody making a bad game for the system and alot of 360 fans fail to realize that, they look for ammo everywhere and really dig the bottom of the gunpowder barrel in most cases.

As fr as the reviews I have noticed several cases of them slanting to Msoft's side which is wrong, it would be wrong if they slanted to Sony or the Wii too, BIAS of any form has no place in video game reviews...especially Genre bias.

If you're gonna have somebody review a game, make sure they are okay with the genre..JRPGs get this unnecessary heat most of all, they have people writing reviews that either don't like jrpgs or are unfamiliar with them.

The whole bias thing needs to stop when it comes to reviews.

To be truly unbiased, a publication has to be impartial with every review, regardless of system, regardless of developer.  I think we can all agree that this is correct?  Assuming that we can, an interesting argument arises regarding Edge's take on the games this generation.  To please all devout single console owners/fans, are we suggesting that the mean (as in the average, not as in 'Scrooge McEdge only gave MAG a 6!!') scores for Wii, PS3 and 360 games should sit level with each other on a graph?  Nonsense.  Perhaps the varying review scores for console exclusives merely confirm Edge's impartiality?  Maybe the 360 has actually shaded it so far this generation, impartially speaking?  The LittleBigPlanet score shows that Edge has no problem awarding a perfect score to a Playstation game.  See also Super Mario Galaxy.  See also Halo 3.  The fact that the test platform for multiplatform releases is often the 360 merely reflects the state of play - that cross-platform releases are still more often than not superior on 360, and Edge opts to review the (however marginally) preferrable title.  Is that such a heinous crime?  I'd imagine Edge's core readership is a fair bit older that that of, say, IGN, and I'd also suggest that more of its readers own multiple consoles.  I own the PS3 and 360, and I have two rules for buying multiplatform titles.  1. If a game is vastly superior on one machine,  I'll buy the superior game (Bayonetta 360).  2.  If a game is of similar quality on both machines, and isn't a FPS (I prefer the 360 analogue pad), I'll buy it on the PS3 in case my 360 blows up whilst playing it.  Simples.

Do I agree with every review Edge prints?  Not even close.  Recently, NSMB Wii stands out as a title that deserved a higher mark.  Killzone 2, imo, did not.  Bayonetta could've done with a point shaved off.  Bioshock is what I always considered an 'Edge 9'.  You can't agree with any publication more than most of the time, and this has been true since I started buying The S Mag in the 1990.

Going back to my initial sentence, I sometimes wonder if Edge is a little loved-up with Rockstar and Valve.  I used to hate the magazine during the Megadrive days for similar reasons the OP does this generation.  Like Retrokings1981, I think their Let's Tap review was nothing short of ridiculous (probably my biggest Edge WTF since the Gunstar Heroes review).  They used to slate the first Lord of the Rings film, adopting the 'royal we', as if each staff member agreed that it was hammy and overblown - I think one month they asked people to stop writing letters about it (I haven't forgotten this haha).  I raised both eyebrows when they ran their GTAIII review, and attached a score of 6 at the foot of the page, which, after other publications marked it highly, was retracted in the subsequent issue, labelled a typo and changed to an 8 (a game they've listed as the second most important of the decade in this month's issue, btw).  Edge is not infallible.  Edge is not perfect in my eyes, but it's still a great magazine, and still head and shoulders above the competition.

@ Catlana, I'm not pissed at EDGE for one crappy review of MAG, there's a whole host of other absurd reviews they do. for example:

 ....................EDGE ..............METACRITIC

Killzone 2 .........7 .......................91
Halo ODST ........9 .......................83
MAG .................6 ........................76

Crackdown ......8 ........................83
Infamous .........7 ........................85

mario kart wii ...6 .......................82
Banjo kazooie
nuts and bolts ..7 .......................79

It's easy to find PS3 and Wii games that have recieved distinctly low scores from EDGE. Does anyone know of any 360 games that EDGE should of marked higher? I honestly can't think of any, and will be happy if someone can prove me wrong....

The dude abides

Judging a multiplayer only title is very different from judging, say Mass Effect 2, where they have finished the hours long, somewhat scripted game. Multiplayer games depend on the crowd your playing with as much as the game itself, so it's harder to review, especially when the game just comes out. I watched the first 30 minutes of Mass effect 2 and wasn't impressed and yet from looking at the reviews, this is a GOTY candidate, so I will be buying it. I doubt that they spent any where near as much time reviewing MAG.

When you get down to it, you cannot just base your entire opinion about a game solely on one review, it takes many if that makes any sense or you could be the daring type to go out and play it for yourself.

I try to read multiple reviews for titles I'm interested in, but I think the key is to find a handful of sources you trust, and take all this Metacritic malarkey with a humungous pinch of salt.  Mega Action gave Terminator 2 Judgement Day 87%.  Sega Power gave it 17%.  Where was Metacritic then, hmmm??  We all got by (thanks for buying me T2 dad...)

HAHAHA wasn't that game awful though? I had it too, before I knew about video game reviews.

innocent times my friend. back then reviews weren't affected by one anothers opinions lieke they might be today. did edge give mario kart a 6 cos they thought it was a 6 or because the gamerankings average was to high for their liking? scary thought, lol

im off to imdb to give avartar 1/10

edge gave bayonetta a perfect score

bayonetta was excellent but not perfect nor was it close to being perfect

MAG makes every single multiplayer shooter you can think of seem like a childs playground

not only is MAG largely underrated but it seems to be paired with the other multiplayer shooter when compared and that right there makes for a very un experienced view

socom games have always been for the more intelligent, social and dynamic players you will never find anyone in my squad who just talks trash all game or is under the age of 18

best shooter on the market for team tactics and massive scale and most dynamic by far

so another person who isn't having their opinions stroked, so thinks something must be wrong with the media source. This is why fox news is ridiculously popular. Somebody just needs to tap into the modern desire for extreme confirmation bias and make a magazine/site that claims to be legitimate, fair and balanced and then just stroke the e-peens of whatever demographic. They would make a killing and places like IGN, edge and 1up would be toast in favor of ridiculously biased places that please specific demographics. *waits for somebody to say that the aforemention places are exactly like fox news by angry wii/PS3 fans who are getting enough stroking for their platforms*
