Forums - General Discussion - Credit cards

I'm finally going to apply for a credit card. I've had a debit card for my checking account for two years now, and I would like to move up. I am responsible with money, so I'm not worried about overspending if I get a credit card. I'm a college student who just wants to build credit, but I'm just so confused with all the stuff that's out there. Any helps / suggestions and stories too? I do not have a credit history, but I do have student loans to pay eventually.... so I guess that's going to factor in a lot with approval decisions. Thanks for your time people.

Btw, first purchase on my credit card will be Bayonetta! I really want that game, lol.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

I'm sorry I can't help, I made my brother do all that stuff for me. I'm as clueless as you, and its kinda scary since I don't know a thing about Credit Cards...may end up with a $700 bill out of nowhere one day.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

Never understand the want for a credit card, you should only buy things with money you currently have.

You need good credit to buy certain things in life. A lot of employers also look at your credit history to determine if you're reliable. Also if you plan to rent an apartment... you sorta need that thing called a credit history.

If you already know what you want to buy with a credit card, you've failed.

CCs aren't meant to buy things with that you don't need, and could otherwise save up for.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Biggest Scams going.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I am a big fan of Credit Cards, but only buying if you have the money ahead of time. Paying 20% or more interest isn't really my cup of tea. Why waste so much money.

However, if you plan on paying off your bill 100% every month, they are the best thing in the world as you don't have to carry $ with you and you earn money back. Currently Discover is offering a credit card with 5% back on certain categories and 1% on everything else.

I have a citicard that used to be like that but they changed the terms so now I get 2% on gas, food and something else. With over $700/month on those 2% items I save $15/month, if I upgrade to the 5% card I'll be saving $35/month, or $420/year, so I'll be applying soon.

(note, I'm referring to student cards, which have even higher interest rates than regular cards, so again, if you get one make sure you are going to pay it off 100% every time or you'll be spending thousands on interest every year)

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Thanks for the response. You've given me a greater insight. I actually did apply and got accepted for the Discover student. As you stated, buy and pay off as soon as the statement is there. ;)

If you are looking to be responsible with your CC and also build credit I suggest you only buy Gas/Food with your CC and everything else with $. Of course, you need to stay on top of how much free $ you actually have.

But Bayonetta is a NEED. LOL, yeah I already have the money for it to begin with. I'm trying to establish credit here, not indulge on purchases.
