Forums - Sales Discussion - Let's show the world their is a market for mature games on the Wii!!!

If you like a game, buy it. If you don't, don't buy it. Sometimes, people who make games that almost no one buys will go under, small wonder. Posting in a thread to show that you like something amounts to nothing, purchasing the actual product to show support (or heck; even because you like it) makes a difference.

In my opinion any mature gamer has a 360 or Playstation.

I mean 'cmon, mario? Thats a kids thing all the way. So Wii is for kids and casuals or just for people who like simple games. I dont expect mature to do very well on the Wii ever.

But thats just me.

You won't last very long here with that attitude.

The Wii isn't my thing, but Nintendo's been making consoles 11 years longer than Sony, and 18 years longer than Microsoft. Many people who own the Wii are Nintendo fans who've been playing Nintendo games for 25 years.

Mario isn't kiddy. To begin with, Super Mario Bros. is one of the hardest games I have ever played. And it was one of the most advanced games of its time.

There isn't much of a market for M-rated games on Wii, judging by sales of M-rated games compared to the HD consoles, but the market's there, and if a developer makes a good M-rated game, which will appeal to people, people will buy it. The trouble is that they want to make that game on the HD consoles, because it will sell a hell of a lot more (and by this stage, it would), and then do a shoddy port to Wii which nobody likes. Most Wii third-party exclusives try to be innovative and different (not to say they're always good) and lower development costs mean less risk, but there's still no huge market for them.

So basically, if you want to convince publishers that there's a market for M-rated consoles on Wii, there's only one way to vote: with your $50/£30 or however many Euros.

EDIT: You know you've failed when I'm defending the Wii

what? mario is easy, i did mario 1-2-3 from 1-1 to 8-1 easily

and iwas only 5- 6 year old i gotten worse with the years :p

To hell with mature, I JUST WANT ***GREAT*** Wii games:)

Gaming make me feel GOOD!

I'm mature and I like mature games. There don't seem to be many available though, at least not what I'd consider mature, M rated yes but mature no.

I find very few games on the 360 that are actually mature, most seem to be M rated with violence, blood and have references to sex or swearing but they seem more aimed at teen boys who perhaps think that playing such games makes them more 'grown up'. There are of course exceptions that are M rated, have mature themes and mature gameplay.

Recently I bought Silent Hill Shattered Memories for the Wii. This is a great example of my kind of mature game because it isn't drenched in violence, blood or swearing. Sure there are elements of that in it but they don't drive the gameplay as much as the story does. It also is a very cerebral experience as it had me thinking about the moral dilemas even after I had put the controller down. I would really like to see more games like this that are actually mature and thoughtful.

As to mature games selling on the Wii, well I'm sure that they would if they had the same elements that big selling M rated titles on 360/PS3 have, those being high production values and big advertising campaigns. So far there hasn't been a single M rated Wii game that has had all the elements, either they are low budget, are too short or have no advertising at all. Few publishers seem prepared to take a risk, opting for the 'safer' 360/PS3 but no studio has gone bust or lost a vast amount of money making Wii games (even M rated ones) like they have when producing 360/PS3 titles (i.e. Haze, Lair, Too Human, Bionic Commando etc).

I agree with the fact that a lot of the M rated games on the wii are way too short. I know I can play again, but the feeling is not the same as the first time. I played trough the normal difficulty of House of the Dead Overkill in less than 3 hours. I liked it, but will be selling it on ebay. Silent Hill went by way too fast as did Cursed Mountain. But Resident Evil 4 seems to have a longer story. I have already clocked in 4 hours and I have the feeling their is a lot left to do. As for Dead Space Extraction, I don't want it to finish. But I have read that it can be finished in about 6 to 8 hours. Too short for me, unfortunetly. For me, a good game is a minimum of 20 hours.

Some of the best games I have ever played have a rating from 3+

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

The most mature game ever made is Brain Training on the DS, probably followed by Endless Ocean on the Wii.

The most ultra-violent M-rated gore games are Manhunt 2, MadWorld, and No More Heroes 1 and 2, all on the Wii.

Looks like somone hit the nail of the thread and expose what mature games really are. Any medium. Doesn't matter what.
Movies,Games music whatever! Use the mature rating to impress the little kids and make them fell grown up or use them
as entertainment. Of coruse their are some games that use it right. But most of them don't

I wonder if there will ever be a mature game that has a scenario like this

" You are a father of a family of 5, have always tried your hardest to raise your kids to be good people and love your wife very much. She dies in a tragic car accident bringing chaos on to your family. Devastated after your loss you turn to alcohol, eventually lose your job and your children abandon you/have been taken away by the authorities. Game objective: Get your life back"

I honestly wish there actually was something like this.

I have been thinking about that for months. During the course of a game, you have your typical love story. Hero meets girl, but she passes away, and so does his infant during childbirth.

At a complete loss to what to do next, he goes on a suicide mission, running into enemy territory unprepared. As he fights, his anger causes him to be exceptional, killing everyone. After all the enemies are slain,he burns the place to the ground. As he leaves, he sees a 2 year old boy, all alone amongst the flames. Having nothing in the world to live for, he takes the boy in as his own.

There the story begins. Gameplay would probably be turn-based or something; maybe 3D fighting. But in order to level up your son (3 years later) there is a pokemon aspect, where you must get your enemies to a REALLY LOW point, and he must finish them off. Or, he does not have to kill them at all.......but what are the repercussions of that?
