Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is it too late for Nintendo to change the Wii's online infrastructure?

It would be nice if Nintendo made the Wii's online infrastructure more social - made it more "Facebook-y". I would like to know what my friends are playing. I would like to see game demos (perhaps downoaded to SD cards?), not have to put new friends' code for certain games like Mario Kart Wii and Smash (but instead import from my Wii's friends' list) etc. I also think there should be a seperate Wiiware channel. I don't think a lot of people know it exists.

There is just a lot of Nintendo can do to improve it's online. Will Nintendo do an overhaul? Or do you think they just don't care? I  can see the Wii having another 3-4 years left so I don't think it's not too late.

At this point, they might as well save it for Wii Too.

eh just save it for next gen. too deep into this gen already

They can do little corrections but changing all the system is impossible and at this point won't even be a selling point...they must work hard on online for Wii Plus!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Wait for Super Wii.

There's not much point at the moment. The Wii just isn't an online gaming machine and that's that. We can only hope that Nintendo's next console/handheld learns from the Wii and does away with friend codes.

i reckon the wii's online isn't that bad, i mean you can make a good online wii game if 3rd party's and 1st party's navigates it right,

Why not partner with another company? At worst they can always implement Live which would likely mean some sort of profit sharing arrangement. I doubt that Microsoft would say no, so theres always that option to fall back on.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

that would be awesome..... too bad Nintendo doesn't care

at least make an FC channel!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I wouldn't say it's too late at all.

Anything server-side can be changed quite easily. Nothing would stop them from producing a firmware update on the Wii itself an getting rid of Wii Codes too.

So long as titles are pointed towards Nintendo's servers, this won't be too complex. The most difficult thing I could see would be how already released third party titles accept the new change. I mean friend lists, chat restrictions and so forth within the actual games. Would it make them crash? Bug out? Create exploits within Nintendo servers?

If Nintendo made a server-side community then it would make things even simpler.

Of course, talk is always easy.
