Forums - Sales Discussion - Are SE reconsidering DQX for the PS3?

The reason why the DS would succeed where the Wii would fail would be install base for RPG fans.

Unlike the Wii the DS has been very successful with RPG games and had a fan base built up on the console for the Dragon Quest franchise.

While there are more Wii in Japan than PS3 the PS3 most probable has more people willing to pick up Dragon quest X

FFXIII is on track to sell 2 million units in Japan and set to do well worldwide. DQX now with the higly expanded PS3 userbase who are now actively buying third-party software, could probably sell more.

However, almost all of DQ sales come from Japan, but with MH3 (the bigest third-party games for the Wii so far) selling well below the expectations we all had (1.5 million or at least prolonged sales). Even if you think its a resounding success, its still far from what FFXIII did.

Could DQ sell more on the PS3? If it can, should SE switch even despite the higher development cost, as it will mean that their long overdue Crystal Tools is utilised more before the generation is over?

The game won't come to the PS3, but it is true that SE has made a very strange decision by releasing both games on entirely different platforms.

They are completely dividing their (RPG) fanbase on different platforms (FF XIII: PS3 (and 360 in the west, DQ X: Wii). This has hurt the sales of FF XIII (but not so in the west as DQ isn't as popular here) and will hurt the sales of DQ IX (less in Japan as it is more popular than FF). I really have no idea why they decided this.

FF13 started development before the PS3 was released... back on the PS2.

DQ started development in 2008.

Why they did it is fairly obvious if you ask me.

FF13 was committed to PS3 and HD development before they realized that the Wii was going to be the console king of Japan.

It'd make sense, porting a game 'up' from the Wii and giving it a HD brush isn't exactly hard or expensive. It wouldn't typically happen as the game would look 'bad' compared to HD-only games, but for an art style such as DQX's it wouldn't really be noticeable.

It won't happen if Nintendo are as involved on this as we've been lead to believe though. Shame really :(.

Can't you distinguish PR-talk? Right now there are probably 1.9 million units shipped, and reaching 2 million pretty much depends on if they ship new units or if it get's "the best edition" later this year.

There are still thousand of used copy's sold a week, sales which you of course don't see in charts.

Right now it doesn't look like FFXIII will reach 2 mil without re-release.

Also, not sure why the user game sales are mentioned. It happens to every game in Japan and it doesn't count as sales.

if this is the case, why do we not see more games being ported up since it would be easy and quick additional cash for the publishers?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I think DS is a much better choice than Wii or PS3, or even Wii/PS3 multi.

As for DQX Wii/PS3... I can see SE thinking about it, due to RPG sales on Wii not being all that impressive.

Porting it wouldn't be too much trouble. Look at how long it took for GoW Collection to be made, and you kinda have the idea.

For sales, it would be a better option, and less risk, than being Wii exclusive.

Dragon Quest is the biggest (if not biggest then second biggest, pokemon) franchise in Japan. No matter what console it's on it'll sell a butt load. Monster Hunter only got big on a the PSP it was expected to have mediocre sales compared to PSP on the Wii.

If DQX was on the PS3 it'll sell more then 2 million easily but it would be wise to bring it to the Wii because of the userbase since it's only going to sell well in Japan.

It would be nice to see a HD DQ game though.

They could probably sell it on both if they wanted to since DQ is a really cartoonisty anime game.

In your dreams.

And MH3 sales are just fine. Better than the previous game on PS2.

u cant use that as an excuse the game wasn't a big hit until the psp....

It's worth noting that consoles are far smaller than handhelds over there, though

The best selling PsP Monster Hunter is the 9th best selling handheld game in Japan

Monster Hunter 3 is the 13th best selling console game in Japan.

Monster Hunter 3 did actually tie the first Monster Hunter on the PsP too. It's nowhere near the success that Monster Hunter: 2nd G was, but it's actually going to be closer to that than the New Super Mario Bros. Wii vs Super Mario Galaxy difference.

Essentially; he may be using silly reasoning, but there's plenty of decent reasoning.
