Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Speculation: Is "The Last Story" an FF game that Sakaguchi can call his own

To be blunt, I don't give a F***; its Nintendo and Mistwalker!!! OMGWTFBBQ

But seriously, I trust that with Nintendo at the helm, it will be an effective RPG. I don't think FF9 sold as much as its predecessors, but regardless of that, Ninty will take "Gooch"'s form and make it appeal to a wider demographic somehow. Not by "casualizing" it, but giving themes or a presentation that more people will accept.

Nintendo stated before they wanted an RPG to compete with an FF, so this might/is* be it. Xenoblade is a different beast altogether. They really want to revitalize the Japanese market. Dropping two RPGs with years of dev time is a surefire way of doing it.

Just when I thought they were lazy LOL, they announce two titles in genres which require some of the most work of any games.

Highly doubt thats even possible

The last time Nintendo and Sakaguchi teamed up lead to Super Mario RPG all I'm hoping for now is for Mutsuno to be involved as well.

Quite possibly. This could be the "revenge" of the Square Enix expatriates

I just want something that's at least half-way on the lighthearted side. Something like Symphonia or One Piece, that can have a serious story, but also hosts goofy characters to keep things from getting all srs business.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Hm.........Just some slight changes from FF formula could possibly avoid copyright issues. I THINK atleast. It depends on how drastic the changes can be.

Oh really?.......

You don't think Nintendo developed RPG could surpass 2 million in Japan? Monster Hunter 3 passed 1 million, but that was Capcom.

ah, young padawan you do understimate the team from Kyoto. If they could drop a bomb like Pokemon, what's to say they can't make another hit. You do realize Square Enix only manges to create an FF with about $60-100 million, and as a company is horribly mismanaged. The you have Nintendo, with a workforce smaller than EA and so thrifty that they won't even PAY ATTENTION.

I like those odds.

I hope your right.

Just looking at sales of lost oddesy scares me (in Japan), this game will probably be more int he lost oddesy style than blue dragon style from the logo.

I really want this to do well & be the JRPG franchise for nintendo, possibly even compete with FF, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high

don't you dare jinx the game!!

Well, there are jRPG's already that beat Final Fantasy, but in the traditional sense of competing with it, ie. trying to make a 'better' Final Fantasy, you're right that would be pretty much impossible. But the two ways it could beat Final Fantasy is by not competing directly, perhaps by having a different (and wider) appeal, as Dragon Quest does, or by being disruptive. Ie. by abandoning one of the core values of Final Fantasy that is keeping it back in favour of a new value. It would be like NSMB Wii disrupting 3D Mario by abandoning 3D and adding the new value of simultaneous multiplayer.

I have my own thoughts on how they could do this.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Where does it say Nintendo is developing the game? I thought it was just Mistwalker.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
