Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo and their localization efforts on the Wii.

I honestly don't remember this much crying when we didn't get Doshin the Giant, Giftpia, Kururin squash or the first Custom Robo. Yet tantrums are thrown when games like Captain Rainbow don't make it here, even though the game itself would have to be butchered/censored and then sold at a budget price to even remotely appealing so as to not incur losses on the localization effort in the first.

There were times when we used to have to wait upwards to a year for something like Zelda after Japan got it. That's what I consider ONE YEAR (or more) LATE!!!111!1!1, not something that came out a quarter or two later, which just happened to be in the next calender year.

EDIT: Also, I wouldn'tjump to conclusions about Monado turning into Xenoblade. May be true, may not be true. I'll wait for confirmation.

There was a Custom Robo game before the gamecube one?

No kidding.  Custom Robo rules.

The story was goofy, but it's a fun game.

ah come on tres. just look at the games that stayed in Japan. hardly any of these was interesting, and the few ones that were worth a look had other problems like Fatal Frame actually being third party etc.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

The PS2 had over 5000 titles for Japan, the USA got 2500

(this probably includes special editions and such, but still a huge difference)

In some cases I agree with you, more games should release nearer together worldwide... though I disagree with your use of "1 year later" as I don't believe any of those games were actually 1 year later, most are a few months.

Edit... it's even more skewed than I thought:

Something I was going to mention too... it's really peculiar when you consider that not only does the US sell more software... it sells more software per console... but that's how it's always been... ever since the freaking NES.

Probably because games are made mostly by the Japanese... and Western Developers seem to translate everything over to Japan even though games like Army of 2 aren't going to sell and nobody should expect them to.

Most of those games shouldn't be localized anyway. But I agree with you, Fatal Frame, Disaster and ExciteBots should be released in all three regions.

Wait, i had Wii Play on March 2007, and Wii launched on November 2006, there is hard to say that there is a year of difference. And that happens for most of your "1 year late".

From that list of games non-released on america i think the only ones that could being successful were Tact of Magic(Advertised as the sequel of Lost Magic), Fatal Frame IV, Disaster or Another Code R, and besides those the rest i don't think they had too much chance of being a success.

Wii Chess was seen as a rip-off as i remember, Eyeshield 21 is a manga/anime if i don't remember so Nintendo should pay to launch on America. Captain Rainbow was a quircky game

Nintendo should open up to 3rd party publishing like SCE does. Why not let Namco Bandai publish Disaster, or Square Enix publish Tact of Magic? Hell, they let Atlus do Cubivore last gen, what changed?

Fatal Frame still weirds me out too, it's like neither Nintendo nor Tecmo want to take responsibility for it...

look at the 3 site sopened today. other M, last story and Xenoblade all seem very Japanese to me, i tink they are trying to get the hardcore crows there. Last story will get localised. It's going to be a major AAA game from nintendo, it's the rumoured final fantasy killer i feel. game thast don't get localised are the smaller ones, i don't think Last Story is small, i expect an announcement at E3

lol at 1 year late Try a few months late, the 1 year late makes it look a lot worse than it actually is/was.

oh, and I'm going to lol at legend of zelda never announced for NA. Considering the leak was from E3, this is just stupid. Not only that, you counted it in the Japan has more games than NA section.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Very disingenuous of you to count 2010, at least at this point. Wait until E3 to make a proclamation for this year.
