Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do you expect more fun from 1st-party Wii-games than from GC-games?

I don't think that many people disliked the Gamecube 1st party games...the problem was more about 3rd party games...but I can see why people think the games weren't that great. I find Super Smash Bros Melee immensely superior to the first SSB game, even though both are fun, and some of my friends still prefer the first...mainly because they're better at it. Mario Sunshine was fun, but not groundbreaking like Mario 64. Mario Kart Double Dash is really fun, but again, Mario Kart 64 was a brand new experience and much more memorable. Mario Parties got dull after the third game. But with the Wii, I think we'll see great innovation and new experiences like with the greats of N64.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

As I said in the other thread, I just didn't see as much to get excited about in the Gamecubes continuation of Nintendo's traditional franchises. I got excited about Metroid Prime, but that's practically a new series in it's current form. But by and large installements in Zelda, Mario, Starfox, Waverace and Mario Kart just didn't give me the same feeling. So far Twilight Princess has impressed me far more than Wind Waker, and the videos for Galaxy look beyond amazing. Throw in the new flagship that is the Wii series (Nintendo's new creation will be absolutely huge!) and it's just looking all round better for the big N these days.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

The GC was my favourite console for last gen - and would have scored 95% of my playtime. The reason, is that I love Nintendo games (gameplay, etc..). What the Wii adds is "proper online" (the GC never really went online at all), more accessible controls (my partners 65yr old mother was over again last night, and we had a blast teaching her to play golf) ... and various technical improvements (better gfx, better sound, etc). If the Wii was simply an "updated" version of the GC - Im sure I would have still bought it. But if Nintendo would not be developing games for it, then probably not. So in short - I'll buy whatever hardware/platform Nintendo develop games for (as long as they maintain their standards).

Nintendo themselves calls GC an evolution and the Wii a revolution, Wii is the bigger jump in gameplay. hence when I was getting tired of some of the old franchises the Wii-mote has revived them for me. Like I would not have bought Warioware if it wasn't for the motion controls prior to that I was pretty much done with the franchise, but this has breathed new life into it, as it will continue to do for many other titles.

I think part of it is a type of "grass is always greener on the other side" mentality. We played the GameCube games, we know what we liked and more importantly didn't like about them. Their Wii bretheren are as great as we wish them to be at the moment. This is all the more so since we don't really know how the new controls will change the gameplay. Kind of like when we (well those of us over 22 or so) saw the first pics of Mario 64 and could only guess at how a 3D Mario game would play.

gamecube did have some of the best platformers for any console, but the wii can now really add to that. take warioware for example, as dumb as it was, few can denie for the cube, it was alot of dumb fun, and great for partys. Now take warioware for the wii, how much more fun is it? its amazingly fun, still dumb, funny "storylines" (if thats what you want to call them) and working the controller in is 50x as much fun as opposed to basically pushing "A" for every random minigame. warioware is sooo great for the wii, everyone should give it a chance. thats what nintendo is talking about not only better, but different. when it came out for the cube, it was different, pointless, stupid, and a hell of alot of fun. for the wii, even better due to really being able to set itself apart from regular gaming. it uses the wiimote in just about every way imaginable.

A delayed game is good someday, a bad game is bad forever.
