these people have no life!!!!!! Don't they have anything better to do!!!!!

Who are you talking about?

I'm talking about hacker's. There always screwing with stuff, just let these systems be!!!!!

Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web.

Linus Torvalds created the linux kernel.

Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer.

What do they have in common? They gained experience from hacking which led to bigger and better things.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

He didn't hacked the big monolith. He gave up. Go back to the Iphone that's something you can manage and forget about The Cell. Too much for you and everybody that tried before you.

The only reason the PS3 can't play pirated games yet is because not enough people have a blu-ray burner and the blank media still costs too much. As soon as those come down in prices and becomes more mainstream, it will be hacked...just like everything else.

thats not really it... if you think a little... Ps3 has a Hdd... most of multiplat games are not bigger than 7GB... so if it could run the software you could download it from internet and run it from the Hdd... the problem is that no one ever gain access to the 7th SPU  where Ps3 OS runs and without it, none is going anywhere...

my ps2 didn't have a modchip and i could launch games from a 3.5" HDD in the back (all discs had to be original to be able to copy them(since it was not chiped) to the HDD, only use this to not have to swap discs between games)... its definitely not about blank media.

doubt this is going to lead to pirate games... they open the otherOS and unless they can put linux launching ps3 software they just going to play with the power of the console in linux applications... hacking the PS3 OS its an all other story... from what i understand, its going to pass another year before they come up with a game loader for linux and other year for getting all games running smooth, if ever they go that way!

my hats off to Geohot for getting this far, but i now have some real doubt's if there is any way to get to that secure SPU security  root key,

I am sure there may be some way, Hell Geohot may be on the right direction with a board shocker! lol, but getting that root key is just as far as i can see quite well protected,

aside from that there is still the runtime security to get unreg code to run.

I think it may be a clear problem the fact that since the Slim does not allow other OS installed, there may be a way for a live boot, but then there would be a problem of still getting past that SPE secure processing vault.

so i congrat George for getting this far, no easy feat that is for sure but i VERY much doubt this going anywhere due to the very reason of the way you cannot dump the SPE secure vault root key to gain full access to the system.

Too bad this hack is useless.
Sony can easily patch this. That Geohotz kid has zero life.

i would agree that this hack on the surface is useless, but that fact that he used a board shocker was pretty cool way to get into parts of the PS3 security, which was the only way i could see it could have been done to get that far, It most likely had to be some hardware to gather a somewhat limited diagnostic of the board, the problem is still getting past that design of the secure processing vault and dumping the Key, maybe use the hardware to take a snapshot...um better not go further..lol, anyway patching something on what Geohot did is not as easy as you think, Its quite hard.

As it stand's now since the root key has not been exploited there prob. is not too much of a problem right now.

as for Geohot having no life, he has done quite a bit in the short amount of time.

they guy hacked the Iphone, and now atleast part of the PS3 along with other's i don't consider that a zero life that seem's pretty active life to me

It has turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax IMO.

After all the speculation surrounding exactly what this hack did it turned out to be nothing....sort of.

It doesn't affect the slim, the current production PS3.

If this hack is modified to be useful expect a serious price hike for those fat PS3s.

Sony removed the "Other OS" option, I was slightly pissed off when they did this. Did they know something?

I look forward to an official Sony statement.

I don't mind when people hack things, it's when they exploit it.

He has zero social life imo. Probably sits in his mothers basement all day.

I felt sick reading those articles. I hope the hack is useless and remains useless.

The PS3 must never be hacked. The PS3 is the last hope against piracy.
