I really don't know what's up with Japan this past month or two. I'd say that the Japanese were just shifting to handhelds, but keep in mind that the week after SMG's debut, FFTA2 on the DS - a game that was almost guaranteed to do at least 200k first-day based on the Final Fantasy name and the huge install base of the DS - didn't even break 100k first-day.
Maybe we're just in a slow season and SMG launched too early.
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

No, SMG just didn't do as people expected. Heck, people's predictions were impossible either way. Not enough copies shipped. They only shipped 500k - 600k copies. |
Poor excuse. If Nintendo knew and everyone knew it was a hit. They would of shipped millions of copies to retailers. FOR GOD SAKES ITS MARIO!!!!! So for them to only ship a little thats poor excuse. Sorry Soriku lost all your cool points with me.

I think they are shifting to the handheld market. And saying good by to the console.
You seem to be looking for the answer that the Wii did poorly, and SMG did poorly.
I honestly don't agree. I think it did fine, and it'll keep selling well. It didn't sell like expected, but like I said, Japan seems to be casual/handheld now.
I'm not trying to defend Wii or SMG or whatever...I'm saying why the game might have sold under expectations...and why I don't think it matters for NA and Europe.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
TP sold under expectations in Japan as well. Sucks I guess, but ultimately, it doesn't matter to me...I care about the NA market as that's where I live.

@W29 & DmeisterJ
thanks
@soriku
well, once again that isn't the best of excuses
anyway that doesn't stop the game from being a REASON to buy the wii as we can see from the reviews..

No I don't agree with you. Since the begining of this war it was like "When Super Mario Galaxy releases, it will dominate this holiday season and win over more Wii owners". Sure, did it?
hahaha, no. So now lets see what it does as far as lifetime since in Japan it didn't live up to expectations. North American it might be different than again, supply is low in America, and thats just going to piss off more consumers. Nintendo is in trouble.

Well it looks like I can say Resistance didn't live up to expectations in Japan. Sucks too, but it really doesn't matter to me. I worry more about the American market.
WOW that feels good.
