Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Capcom: 'If you make a good game, people will buy it'

"Captain Obvious" came to my mind the instant I read the title. Well.........of course this is correct.......it's possible he means a game that's beyond "good". Great? Excellent? Just not an average good game..........meh, that's my guess.

why is it obious?
it's the first time a third party actually realizes

I'd say having possibly the most platinum-selling Wii games that can't be dismisses as "casual" (feel free to give me numbers if I am wrong) can lead to that conclusion from the more observant people at Capcom.

No.

I've never heard of this guy; maybe he's a Wii rookie.
At least he knows this now for the future.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom is poised to sell 50k in the first week; 250k in Americas lifetime is not out of the question; that means it will have outsold Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the PS2 (240k on the PS2, 140k on the Dreamcast according to NPD LTD figures)

I don't think those kinds of posts are allowed. I'm not kidding. You should have at least four words or it looks like hit and run trolling (and if that is what you are doing, people will report you).

Where do we look up his work?

Funny, you'd think this would be obvious, but for most 3rd parties on Wii, it isn't. I don't know what it is about the Wii that suddenly makes these 3rd parties so incredibly stupid and baffled.

Many of us think it's a combination of Nintendo hate and that Wii broke the paradigm they were convinced games followed.

I believe that Ryota Niitsuma was one of the producers for the newly released Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom as well as a few of Capcom's other fighting games like Street Fighter IV.  His position as producer probably means that he's got a good amount of experience behind game design.  I would trust his opinion for the most part (it is Capcom after all)

All I can find on him is that he was a producer for...

  • Street Fighter IV (AC)
  • Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes (AC/Wii)
  • Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (Wii)

...wierdly, I can't find his name in credits for any previous Capcom games... I'm guessing he was either manly working on arcade games or that he's a new(ish) hire.

Well he is partially right. It should read, "If you make a good game AND you PROVE IT TO THEM, people will buy it." Meaning you can't just make a good game and expect people to know it is a good game. You make a good game and then through marketing, hype, and reviews you prove it to them. It doesn't mean you'll have a knockout but, games that have good word of mouth tend to sell well at least over long periods of time so you'll have that.

Only exceptions to this rule is of course games that are quite "niche" in nature. Only one that seems to have broken that mold is Valkyria Chronicles, but I doubt our sales numbers, and doubt other things on it that would cause it to break that mold haha. But ya get the point.

A lot of times it just seems devs sacrifice one for the other which shows a lack of faith on both fronts.
