Forums - Sony Discussion - Geoff Keighley: Mass Effect 2 Will Come To PS3, EA Just Can’t Talk About It Yet

I truly believe ME2 will be on Ps3

But, then again... since dragon age origins sold so much less on Ps3 (even though it's a superior version), maybe EA would just not risk with a port that would pretty much ruin their image on the xbox community.

God I hope not. This keeps the 360 different from the PS3. They don't need the same games.

I bet if it were the other way around, you'd be all "I'd be happy as then the userbase of another console could also enjoy such a brilliant game".

Sometimes you over-compensate with your posting style on here.

Tell me, when have I ever applauded a game going multiplat? In fact, I am completely against the idea of 'more people get to play if it's multi' because the system that a game is available on should be the system that the consumer buys to play such games. What's funny is, you obviously know nothing of my post history to boldly claim that. It's WIDELY known that I detest the multiplatting of ANY game. If you can find one post to back up your claim though, I'll happily accept being wrong. Otherwise, I've always been an advocate for exclusives remaining exclusive.

Recent and excellent examples concerning Quantum Theory: Post 1  Post 2

Ironically enough, that's from a thread that YOU created. Seems to me like what I said bothers you because it goes against the idea of Mass Effect becoming a PlayStation franchise.

Actually, both those Quantum posts were "I wish it weren't going multiplatform because I think one platform lets the game take full advantage of one hardware's specs"...

... whereas what you were arguing here was "I hope it doesn't go multiplatform because I want the consoles to be unique".

But fair enough; you don't like defections.

Well I hope he is right, as I would love to have it on PS3 as its a fantastic game.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I have no issues if many games go to one console. It makes me need to spend less on consoles.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

How?

How what exactly?

Why do the 360 and PS3 games have to be diffrent.

You'd rather have the same games on TWO systems?

Are you not being a tad bit contradicting in this? Me along with you and others have been victim of the 'exclusives going multiplat but glad because now a larger audience has a chance to view it and enjoy such a great game' type of deal. So if Mass Effect were to eventually make its way onto the ps3 then would this not be the same case? Although EA of course just wants to make more profit and is not seeing it as that, but ultimately it would be a win win situation both for the Company and for the Gamers.

Nope, I have never been for that 'type of deal'. Sorry.

I generally agree with you that exclusives make the system have an identity of sorts, whether they be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd party games. But....if that's your philosophy, why would you support Microsoft at all this generation? The only thing they've been known for this gen is multiplatting Playstation associated franchises. In that regard, M$ doesn't even have their own identity, but rather one that is "Playstation + Halo and Gears". Is that really enough to separate the two companies? And you can talk about Forza, I dunno, Lips? 99 nights ummm Crackdown, and many more....but those games themselves wouldn't be here if it weren't for GT, Singstar, Dynasty Warriors (formerly Playstation exclusive), GTA (again), etc.

There are only so many genres of games out there, and I realize that, but other than Gears of War, things Microsoft have funded haven't innovated in those genres that started out on Playstation, rather, just mimicking them.

*Before I get called out for not mentioning Nintendo, I'll tell you now that things like Crash Bandicoot, Spryo, Jak and Daxter, etc. do things way differently than Mario. But Lips does nothing special in comparison to Singstar, if you understand.

With all that said, why should Mass Effect stay exclusive, especially in these days where "3rd party exclusivity is a thing of the past". FFXIII didn't stay exclusive, nor was the franchise "associated with Xbox". Same with GTA, DMC, and many others. It all doesn't matter what we individually think the industry should go, in the grand scheme of things, but why is it now so wrong that a 360 exclusive goes multiplatform, when this entire generation, alot of Playstation franchises went multiplatform? I guess pertaining to the "exclusives > multi" school of thought, this is a special case scenario

I'm against many of Microsoft's ways, yes I won't deny that. But, at the end of the day, preferences or not, I love all systems. The more games I get to play, the better. That's why I hate seeing the same games all over the place, where's the innovation anymore?

And again, I've never been for any exclusives going multi. It's never been about WHAT games go multi, but all. I hate it all around and have always expressed such. When has there ever been a 'special case' for me?

If its a timed exclusive I don't mind quite as much because it means that the original plaform gets a unhindered development and hence the game can be made with the ultimate vision in mind.

The one thing nobody in here is mentioning is whether Mass Effect 2 could be made for the PS3 well enough to stand scrutiny compared to the 360 version.  The Unreal Engine it uses will surely heavily favour the 360.  My post is pure speculation but if they ported ME2 to PS3 and couldn't make it equivalent to the 360 version then would it sell, PS3 users made a big fuss about Bayonett being inferior when released, Bioshock too.  If it happened to ME2 then would it sell enough to justify them porting it, this is just one of the things that crosses their mind assuming they can get around any contractual issues.

This isn't about the 360 being better hardware, it's just everything about this situation points to a game optimised for a architecture like the 360, a quick port to PS3 would run like crap and not sell.  Assuming they take time to rewrite and optimise everything for the PS3, it still not guaranteed they could achieve equivalent performance as the game will have been designed with the 360 strengths in mind that perhaps the PS3 will struggle with (like Bayonetta was).

This I think is what CGI refers to when he wants exclusives/console exclusives to stay that way.  A exclusive game can play to the strengths of the hardware its developed for, when you go mulitplatform then either sacrifices are made in the design phase, or in production.  Production sacrifices might be one version hobbled with a quick port, or both versions hobbled to keep them close.

Even if it comes to the PS3, I just don't care.

Mass Effect 1 spent only 15 minutes in my 360's drive before I lost interest.

what? they'll release the game 59,99$ two years from now when mass effect 2 360 will be 29,99$, I see a bioshock (ps3) flop coming their way

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
