I don't get it. It has most of the things americans want in a sport, (it's brutal and high scoring, the only thing it lacks are constant breaks for commercials) but most americans haven't even heard of it... it's really a shame.

Why is it "a shame" and why should we care anyway that sport y is not popular in country z?

It's just like it is.

The NFL already tried to make American Football more popular in Europe and it's still (and probably always will be) a niche sport in Europe.

Why are dating sims popular more popular in Japan than anywhere else in the world? Just different tastes.

Yea its pretty popular around here in central Europe and eastern/northern.
Basicaly Slavic countries, Scandinavia, Germany and couple more (France, Iceland, Hungary to name few).
