Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Party 9??

I played Mario Party for the first time on the Wii when it was early in its lifespan.  It was OK, but not really a good game.  I was shocked to see how well it has sold though.  We haven't heard anything about Mario Party 9 even though this game was an annual release for a while, right?  Any news anywhere on a new game in the series that might not feature so much spazzy waggle and maybe even look like it isn't from 2002?  This IP seems like a big seller for Nintendo, so even though I'm not interested in buying this game I wonder why they haven't made a new one with online, wide screen, WM+, etc.

Also, who wants to be my bitch?  I'm now taking applications!!

I don't know. Though Mario Party 9 could use Motion +. Than I can see it doing well. But if it ever gets released it'll be in 2011. Its too corwded right now to have a new mario game

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

killeryoshis: thanks for the input. Were you not interested in applying for the position of bitch?

i have wondered that too. A friend of mine said that the mario and sonic at the olympics games replaced the need of a mario minigame collection so thats why there hasnt been any more mario party games.

I agree, I can definately see nintendo making a Mario Party based off the Wii Motion +.

However I will not buy it cuz nothing beats the Maio Parties on the Game Cube!!!

They probably are waiting until the next system. The thing is that when there were loads on the N64 and GC, they sold well, but 8 and DS are the bestselling games of the series, so they are likely holding back now. And considering the saturation now, I can't blame them.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I think there'll be a new Mario Party on Wii, eventually. Just not too soon, because there's really been an abundance of Mario already, with:

- Mario Kart

- BOTH Mario & Sonic games

- Mario Party 8

- Mario Galaxy

- NSMBW

- Super Paper Mario

- Mario Strikers

- Mario Sluggers

- NPC Mario Tennis

... and quite a few of them are still selling strong.

So, I think Nintendo will want to limit the Mario stuff a bit, we're also getting Galaxy 2 this year, and adding yet ANOTHER Mario title on top of that might just put people off, or cannibalize the other games' sales. Maybe when the current Mario games' sales slow down a bit.

Oh yeah, and Mario's ALSO in Brawl. PLUS the plethora of Virtual Console Marios. No machine has ever seen so much Mario, haha, it's practically overkill!

The "need" seems unlikely; I am sure a new Mario Party would sell great, especialy if it had M+ and Balance Board support. However, your friend's theory could hold water if changed to "part of the deal between Sega and Nintendo for Mario and Sonic is that Nintendo won't release Mario Party games."

You have 59 posts. The only person you could afford to make into your bitch right now is named dsister44. He's really cheap...

@Cheebee, Nintendo are riding the Mario wave. I could see it being a 2010 holiday release..Definitely will incorporate the Balance board and Motion Plus. :)

Yeah, I could maybe see it as a 2010 holiday title. I guess we haven't got too many 1st party casual games this year, and I doubt Nintendo will want to face another scenario like late 2008/early 2009 again, especially considering both 360 and PS3's motion control devices... Stuff like Metroid and Zelda isn't gonna get the casuals excited.

Of course there's always the Vitality Sensor titles, whatever they turn out to be, but I don't think Nintendo will want to wager on solely on them for support, as they're new and unproven. They may just keep Mario Party as a back-up for the holidays. Would make sense, considering the competition. Vitality Sensor games + Mario Party + any unannounced surprises + major core games like Galaxy 2, Other M and possibly Zelda = basically win on all fronts...
