FF7 is considered classic gaming now? God I feel old.

On another note... no duh. There isn't a right platform for it this generation.

um....PlayStation 3

Hahahahahaha a man that was funny ^__^

Basically my reaction.

Looking at FF13 being slightly below a FF game, and a lot below the first mainline Final Fantasy game in sales...

PS3 would definitly not be worth it.

Actually the PS3 is the best pick for this gen. If it was on the Wii it wouldn't really be much of a remake, the graphics would only be slightly improved. If it was on the X360 sales would be horrible in Japan, where the game obviously would do best at. And that leaves the PS3, it would be the best console to make the game look as good as possible, and it'll do pretty good in Japan (even if the PS3 has sales of over 10 million in Japan I highly doubt the game would sell over 2 million, it is a remake it wont outsell the original, so an install base of 4.5 million right now would be just right, and it's clearly not in the making right now and knowing SE it'll likely take 3 or 4 years to make so by then the install base of the PS3 would be definitely over 10 million). Not to mention it was a console exclusives for a Sony console.

But me personally I'd rather wait till nex gen just so the game would look that much better, I've waited 10 years so I can wait a few more.

Go look back at the bolded sentence in my original post.

Though I disagree.  The Wii wouldn't be much of a remake, but it'd be better then the PS3 in that there would be a decent chance it wold make money... and would make more money.

Either isn't a prime choice though... hence why there is no reason they would remake it this gen.  Honestly if they "remade" it this gen i'd expect it to be a slight port up to DS or PSP.

Like I said if it's going to be the PS3 it'd take a few years to make so by the time it releases the sales for the PS3 in Japan (and worldwide) would be very respectable. And either way this game is going to make a lot of money no matter what console it get's made on. Releasing it on the PSP would be suicide (since the PSP is horrible for selling software), and the DS would be a bad choice aswell because most owners probably never heard of FFVII to begin with.

But ignoring the install base of a console I don't expect this game so sell over 5 million it's a remake there not known to outsell the original version, especially the highest selling game of the series.

It makes sense to release it on the PS3.

Not... really.  It'd cost too much for the graphics on something you KNOW isn't going to sell 5 million.  The costs would be astronomcal.  You could make FF15 in that time.

PS3 you'd risk losing oney.

I can't see this game costing anymore then 40 million or so (especially now that SE is likely getting a little more use to the PS3), so in order for them to make a profit it'd have to sell over 2 million, which should be easily done.

That seems like an estimation of costs pulled by nothing.

It's also not taking into account advertising... which for such a game would not be slim.

Or the fact that your taking away one of your two PS3 teams... which are the two premier Square Enix teams to make a remake that doesn't have blockbuster sales potential.

Also to say getting to over 2 million would be easy... are we sure?  Anyone that wants to buy FF7 now, can get it a hell of a lot cheaper on the PS3... from PSN.

Really, all hopes for a remake should of been dashed the moment FF7 hit the PSN.

Why would it take more than 2 and a half years to make a remake of VII?

They've got an engine. [FFXIII]
They've got the locations.
They've got the script.
They've got the character models [Crisis Core/Advent Children].
They've got the voice actors. [Crisis Core/Advent Children]

GT5 was built from scratch, took 5 years with 110 employees, has new licenses from around 2 or 3 new car companies the past games didn't have, a number of new licenses for events and tracks, a heavy online component that an FF doesn't need and has visuals a FFVII remake wouldn't need too match. Yet it's at a 60M budget. How expensive and time consuming could an FFVII remake on PS3 be?

lol, you're kidding me right? On the Wii a remake would only be "slightly improved"? "Slightly"? You're telling me on the Wii it wouldn't look much better than this?

I agree that if they decided to make it this gen and on a console the PS3 would be the best choice but don't say something stupid like that.

there is a bigger power difference between Wii and PS1 then between DS and SNES.  They put FF4 on DS,but really they should make a FF5 and FF6 remake before thinking about 7.

As for FF5 and FF6 being remade first... probably, FF7 it seems they want to save for the right occasion... and likely will want to put one of their "A" teams on it.

While the rest of the FF's are kinda side projects.

they have been remaking the games in order up until now, i don't see why we should assume they are gonna skip to FF7 all the sudden.

I'm glad. Square-Enix needs to stop remaking games and create some new ones.
