There are devices out there that sync with iTunes without stepping on Apple's toes. They make an app that delves into the iTunes database files and grabs the playlists that the user specifies. The key here is that they design their own sync app with their own interface, rather than trying to hijack Apple's.

Instead of doing that, Palm just chose to program their devices to masquerade as iPods so they can take full advantage of iTunes software (possibly violating proper USB protocol in the process). That's why they have to fight Apple every time there's an iTunes patch.

Anyway, Sony really need to get Ericsson sorted, or completely spin it off and turn Vaio into a mobile product, Sony needs to get in the mobile game fast: the market will completely dominate handheld gaming, portable music players, and personal computers within the next decade, and Sony, along with Microsoft, need to pull their fingers out and actually jump on this bandwagon before it starts moving too fast.

Look at the Windows Mobile OS %! They have lost 66% of their market share in less than a year! Im sure someone would delight in posting that in the Microsoft forum. I would post that if I felt like it, but im going to save it and wait for their financials.

If a thread has to do with Sony or if the topic at hand involves Sony, like this one, I don't see why it wouldn't go in Sony's forum. People complaining about the placement of this are being ridiculous.

Don't put too much stock in that graph. It's tracking ad requests recieved by AdMob, not actual usage or marketshare of mobile OSes. So it can give you an impression of where the market's going, but it may also be heavily biased towards certain platforms. iPhone and Android look way stronger here than they actually are, while RIM is heavily underrated.

It's also worth noting that AdMob just got bought up by Google.

Nokia has an app for Windows and Mac that allows users to sync their devices with iTunes flawlessly. While the interface is different than if you have an ipod (drag and drop), it still works very well. In options you can choose to sync either certain playlists or your even your entire library. Upon connecting your phone, you can have it sync automatically with those playlists, meaning it adds/deletes music, podcasts, and even encodes video for your specific phone according to your preferences without any user input.

You can also have it sync directly with iphoto. Similar to the third party app I used with my Sony w800, except that it's a much better program.

That is true, and id want to see multiple sources to make a definitive claim that android and iphone are decimating the mobile OS market. However, all the momentum i've seen has been from android and iphone OS. None of my friends (all in the IT biz) care for RIM anymore. RIM is losing mindshare and momentum that I know for sure.
