I don't actually see a Sony quote stating what's in the headline. I just see another article, which claims its so, again without a link to prove it.

I smell BS.

Sony looks to vigorously promote the Motion Controller as the de facto controller of the PS3 platform along with the Dualshock series controller and will deploy various measures to enhance the software title line-up for the Motion Controller.

There you go

Trying to prove Sony said something by posting yet *another* article where its the journalist, and not Sony, stating this?

Seriously guys, get real.  Sony didn't say any such thing.  They may have stated that they intend to put effort in to make it as supported as the regular controller, but they most certainly never stated that the new controller is going to just replace the old, like so many posters in this thread are assuming.

You can't honestly believe everything some journalist puts in a headline, especially if its a cut-n-paste from another journalist's article.

They are quoting a press release if thats not enough for you then fine live like an austridge.

The " symbol denotes the beginning and end of a quote, and the part we're discussing doesn't lay between them -- its the journalist adding that in there.  It's "ostrich" by the way.

pretty sure ur all gonna buy it because there gonna have some amazing titles exclusive to the controller and ull be like "zomg want"

my interpretation is that the motion control and the dualshock would just be stocked together in each ps3 sku box. sony doesnt necessarily need to make money off the motion control but the playstation eye instead. so they will sale motion controls seperately as well as have them stock along side the dualshock controller in each ps3 sku box

Wait, wait, wait. Sony announces that all of their controllers are the de facto controllers of their system? That's impressive. Next they'll announce the PS3 is the de facto Sony-owned current gen console.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

It's funny listening to them promoting something you know wouldn't have existed without Nintendo and the Wii.

It's funny knowing that 3rd parties are already backing the PS3 Remote with blockbuster hardcore games

Perhaps I missed the news. What 3rd party blockbuster hardcore games were announced using PS3 remote other than RE5AE (which I'm not even sure if it supports motion controllers anymore now that it's delayed until Fall)?

First of all, Sony doesn't get to decide what the "defacto" controller is... the consumers do. Sony saying that is arrogance along the lines of - "we'll sell 5 million with no games."

Sony can push all they want, but the userbase wants DS3 instead, then DS3 it will be - eventually after the game sales tank and companies get the picture.

As for this, I say "bad move." If I want motion control, I have a Wii. Even on my Wii, I use the GC controller almost any time it is an option. I would wager that I am not the only one that feels this way.

This sounds like the arguement about Sony's 10 year plan for PS3.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Well I along with probably 75%+ other PS3 owners will not buy an arc/gem/wand/pos. I hate motion controller. I play games to relax so if I wanna get "exercise" I'll go outside and play a sport.

Been saying that since Wii Sports/Fit came out.

De Facto for all future motion control games. But it will never replace Dual Shock as the standard Playstation controller.

At least Natal has hype going for it.

This.

Arc (or Gem, or whatever they want to call it) is just a cheap, desperate knockoff of Natal and the Wii. If Sony plans on making this their "de facto" controller, then I'm looking forward to watching the ensuing trainwreck.
