Forums - Nintendo Discussion - *Mario on Wii is enough!*

Certain game types are able to be done fully at a certain technological level, and don't need more technology. You can throw more technology at them, but the returns get smaller each time you do this. Mario is likely one that doesn't need more technology than what they have now. Mario has an artistic style that doesn't need more detail. And adding more detail would actually be distracting. Do we need Mario to get scars?

personally, I don't think there is enough mario (who wouldn't want 3 2D mario's in a single generation?), but maybe that is just me.

However, if there is to be more Mario I want quality titles like Strikers. Mario Party was ok, but could have been vastly improved upon and it wouldn't have been that hard. Also, two of the Mario games are actually Sega games, so you can't really count them, as they aren't Nintendo Mario games.

Anyways, my collection only has 6 out of 26 titles that are actually "mario" games. I had 5 out of 22 on the GC. And the best thing is, that they are typically some of the best games I own on the console.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

3rd parties have seen how their new ips sell on the Wii. If Nintendo was to try to put some of their older ips on Wii, they might only fair as the third parties do as they would be like new ips since many of them haven't been released in 20 years.

How did Punch Out and A Boy and His Blob sell?

What sells in the high millions on the Wii are Wii Sports games and games featuring Mario.

You seem to say that Metroid has been popular this gen, but even though it's from Nintendo the games in that series haven't sold anywhere like Mario or Wii series games.

A new Luigi's Mansion game could be interesting.

Whenever Nintendo doesn't have a Mario game in the pipeline, everybody is asking them when the next Mario is coming.

Don't act like Mario is the only guy you're seeing too much of. At least those Mario games include platforming, racing, RPGs, sports, mini-games, and board games.

The first XBox had 2 Halo games, and the 360 is having its 4th Halo game come out this year. They've built up their mascot successfully, and the milking is accelerating. Halo is even trying to expand its reach into other genres, just like Mario did. Already made the jump from FPS to RTS.

If Sony had a mascot these days, I'm sure they'd be milking the hell out of it too.

Sega and Capcom are even milking their mascots, and Activision is milking everything under the sun.

These are my sentiments on the subject exactly. It's actually kind of irritating that no one ever bags on anyone but Nintendo for over use of franchises when any publisher that has a franchise that is popular does the same exact thing.

I, agree actually.

After I buy both NSMBWii. and Galaxy 2 I will refuse anything else!

I was to wait for another big Mario until the next console, to keep it fresh.

I don't mind Mario spin-offs to much, though.

The best example of milking a franchise from Sony would probably be Ratchet and Clank, every version of the game is the same (basic) format and they have released more than 1 game a year on average since the series began.

I want another Mario Party and SMG2

Seriousy, people need to start putting "the" in front of Wii. I get so annoyed when I here commericials that say "Mare-re-yo, only on Wii".
