Forums - PC Discussion - Upcoming PC games of 2010 (Huge List!)

New "core" console/handheld game announced => mentioned in the VGC news section => people are excited and discuss (not all, but many of) them in threads until and after release.

Upcoming PC games => mentioned ONCE a year in ONE thread about upcoming PC games => some people are excited about the list as a whole (and about the fact that PC gaming is still alive), while other people can't resist to tell the world that they've "never heard of 90% these games", that "only few look interesting", that they "don't like PC gaming anyway" or (my favourite) that "games xyz don't deserve to be on the list".

I'm certainly not on a mission like shio and I won't ever claim that all upcoming PC games will be brilliant - in fact only very few will be polished gems and/or successes, as the worldwide development money put into PC gaming is clearly in a decline. Also, I'm aware since the day I joined VGC that this site is extremely console centric by default, but sometimes I don't understand why some of us are forced to defend PC gaming in nearly every of the few interesting PC gaming threads on VGC.

Or, in short:
I still don't understand when and why many NA gamers started to hate PC gaming and to treat it as a threat instead of an option.

The development money spent on PC games are not declining... It is infact probably increasing faster than consoles. We are now seeing japanese publishers releasing loads of games to PC.

Konami - Metal Gear Rising

Square Enix - has been releasing more PC games recently than Xbox 360 or PS3 games.

Capcom - Pretty much all HD console games are now coming to PC with superior versions.

Sega - All their best games are now on PC. And if it weren't for the success of the Football Manager and Total War series, they'd be in even bigger deep shit than they are now.

As for the NA hating PC gaming, it might be because they think PC gaming is a true threat to consoles, which may very well be.

@daggy: I should have been more clearly with my statement on development money, so let me rephrase it: I think that the worldwide money spent on developing retail PC games is declining (in contrast to MMO and browser games), but of course I can't prove it. It's just a feeling.

Into exclusive PC games maybe, but there again there are very few exclusive games on any platform these days- the cost is too prohibitive to restrict yourself to one segment of the market.

Most of those same people are probably the ones who complain about viruses and how their windows breaks every 3 days and so on and so forth. In otherwords, they don't know shit about PCs, how to keep them running, or how to handle them. They are also afraid that the games that are on the PC are too complex for them to handle, too "hardcore." Gaming didn't boom until games started being dumbed down to a level where a 5 year old can play them and being released on something that a 5 year old can turn on.

The funniest thing of all is that those very same people whine about the Wii being stupid.

Heh. There do seem to be some very defensive posters around, almost like they're embarrassed by having chosen a console. Personally, I've always seen console gaming as complementing PC gaming, rather than being a replacement for it. It's a shame consoles have tried to ape PC gaming in so many ways though- connectivity, FPS's, even RTS's- as they come off as distinctly second best and lose what makes them distinctive. I own a Wii because it offers me something different to PC gaming and the kids love it (same with the DS), and I might pick up a PS3 this year as there are some decent exclusives for it, but I really don't see the point in a 360 as there's very little extra it can offer me over PC gaming and what extra there is (Fable, Halo 3, GoW2) is less than inspiring.

Looking forward to StarCraft 2, Heroes of Newerth, Battle of Kingdoms, and Sacred 2 expansion. Oh yeah cant forget WoW Cataclysm. Should be a good year.

Currently own: PC (duh), SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP.

I hope you're not referring to me in this. :(

A simple reason: They treat it as a threat because they feel threatened by it. They feel that PC Gaming can definitely affect their lifestyles (be it console gaming, mobile gaming, etc...), so they try to sped FUD about PC Gaming.
