Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Madworld worth it's current price of $19.99?

I'd say that's about exactly what it's worth.  Take this as you will.

Don't get me wrong.  There is fun to be had.  If there wasn't, it wouldn't be worth anything.

The positives:

Jack is a cool character in the mold of Snake Plisken that does things his own way.  He also wears a jacket that has a wicked looking logo that looks great on a video game cover.  Oh... he also has a chainsaw attached to his arm.

The combat initially impresses.  You can put a garbage can over an enemy's head, run him through with a sign post, and then whip him repeatedly into a wall of spikes.  Also, you can just slice them up with your chainsaw.

The boss battles are interesting and fun.  My favorite was probably the one against the guy on the motorcycle ( I forget his name).

The game definitely is cool looking and has a lot of style going for it.

The negatives:

The game is way too short.  My file read 3:39 after I was done with it.

The combat eventually gets extremely repetitive.  You can put a garbage can over an enemy's head, run them through with a sign post, and whip them repeatedly into a wall of spikes.  Also, you can slice them up with your chainsaw.

The contrived wannabe Running Man story is horrendous.  It tries to make a simple beat 'em up into something more than it is and falls miserably on it's face in this respect.

The commentators' jokes in the background are extremely juvenile and worst of all, not funny.

So there you have it.  I don't feel ripped off for picking up Madworld at $19.99, but would have been extremely upset if I had bought it at $49.99.  If this is your type of game, then it's worth it at this price.  I would suggest picking up No More Heroes at the same price over this though if you don't have it.  It's a much better game.

For those of you who have played it, do you agree or disagree with Madworld being worth exactly $19.99 or any of the points that I discussed above?

Yeah, I agree. Maybe 5 dollars more.

Bought it for 11 euros.Spent 4 hours on it and that's all.I usually buy last year's games and I want to get 1 hour out of each euro I have spent.I feel ripped off but that's probably just me.
I think 20$ must be ok for most people.

PS:It's not that i didn't like the game,it's just that it has way too many problems and no replayability at all.

I agree with the comment about the lack of replayability.

I don't know if I want to ever play Madworld again.

Any game thats ~5 hours long shouldnt be sold at full price. I think $20 would be too low a number for launch, but $30 would have been perfect.

I spent $50, and i dont regret it since i enjoyed it, but i can see others doing that. The inherent replayability of arcade style games is hard to find for a lot of people nowadays.

I played for an hour and got bored. I wasn't going to comment because I feel like I need to give it more time to give it a chance, but hearing that you beat it in under four hours I feel like I'm 25% through at least and have a pretty good idea of what the game is like.

It would have been fun if it was faster paced, on top of it's repetitiveness, Jack feels slow and tankish. A beat em up needs to be more responsive with an agile character. (Not to say it can't be done with a wiimote, NMH for example, I wasn't a huge fan of NMH either, but more so because of the lack of polish and job system. Combat and bosses were a lot of fun in that. Albeit it did get repetitive at times too.)

Well, seeing as to how Amazon sells it for $9.99 now, I would say it isn't worth the $20.

I played it again once...only the first fights.Took me 3hours to beat it.

I often compare it to No More Heroes, they have a lot in common,No More Heroes is not as gore as Madworld but it's way longer! Then graphics style really are different

Well I paid more for my copy. I think it is worth it.

I always said it was a great rental but poor purchase. If you can't rent where your at then that's a fair price for it.
