nope, I am nowhere near retirement and my eyes are just fine thanks.....

I envy you people with your normal sized hands sometimes. Small devices fit comfortably in your hands. In contrast, I can palm a basketball. That is hold it with one hand, palm down. Bad eyes are just one reason for wanting the bigger model!

You hit the nail on the head. People seem to be obvious to the fact that some of us have large hands. I liked the N64 and original Xbox controllers because they were large. While everyone bitched about them being too big they were right up my alley. When it comes to controllers, Nintendo has managed to make smaller designs that are still comfortable for extended use. Their portable consoles don't share that attribute. I could put an GBA SP in the palm of one of my hands reach all of the buttons with that one hand. While playing that way for the bulk of the GBA's lineup was not feasible. Putting my two catcher's mitts on it for proper play was an invitation for cramp city. I skipped the DSL and the DSi because my DS Phat wasn't as comfortable as I liked and it revisions were smaller. It stopped buying DS games because of this.

I want a second DS in my household at some point, and since I usually only play it at home anyway, the bigger size makes sense for that purpose. So maybe.

DSiXL is looking pretty nifty right now... and my DSLite is starting to get a bit rusty... (sometimes it wont read carts, plus the obligatory cracked hinge. ). I was going to get a DSi for Christmas, but since this beast was announced... I might just get it.

We'll see.

I just got a Dsi, so no.

I'm surprised by how many people actually plan on getting one, after quite a lot of whining about the device here on VGC, and the internet in general when it was announced... Nice.

What changes does this version have compared to the previous?

I already have one. I bought a Wine Red DSi LL (XL) on launch day in Japan (as I am in Japan ;-p )

@Gnizmo: The bigger size is much easier on the hands. After using my DS Lite for awhile my hands would start to cramp up a bit, but I've had no problems on the larger LL (XL).

Excellent. How is in on battery life compared to the DSlite though? I am hoping that the minimum settings will get me at least equal time to play, but I know the DSi did not last as long.

Also, is the spacing on the buttons better? I didn't have any issues normally with my thumb, but I would like a bit of extra space in there. I am guessing they kept it the same since it isn't "freakishly large hand" edition, but hey one can hope right?

The battery life of the LL (XL) is better than the DSi, but a little worse than the Lite. Kotaku did a comparison between the Lite/DSi/LL models here:

http://kotaku.com/5392444/how-does-the-dsi-ll-compare-to-the-dsi-and-ds-lite

On the lowest brightness settings it was:

Battery Life
• DSi LL (Lowest Brightness): 13~17 hours
• DSi (Lowest Brightness): 9~14 hours
• DS Lite (Lowest Brightness): 15~19 hours

The button spacing and size are unchanged. That's probably the only thing I wish was better, as the buttons are the same size. It's not a problem for me, but still they had the extra space to work with...bigger is better, right?

@Signalstar: it fits in my pockets just fine, though I usually carry it in a case and put it in my bag when I take it out.

@Auron: It's pretty much a larger DSi (screen size and system size) with slightly better battery life.

already got light and dsi.......i like have a portable console so i'm not mad about it but i wish i would have had the chance to think about it before i bought my dsi.
