Forums - Sony Discussion - 3 Red Lights. A $ for Sony Story

A story:

I have both a PS3, and an Xbox360. When multiplatform games come out- I have a decision to make for which version to get. This decision is based upon many things for me, such as which friends have which systems, achievements, sixaxis, rumble, XBL updates/PSN updates, graphics, hardware reliability, replayability, features. etc..

The most rescent game in question was Call of Duty 4. For weeks I was unsure about which system to buy it for. I had COD2 and COD3 for 360, and I know the online system works well for those games. I also have 2 friends that were buying COD4 that day for the 360. So despite some unproven- yet provocative reports that the PS3 versions graphics and load times were actually better- I finally decided to buy it for the 360.

This last tuesday, Nov. 6th I went to gameSTOP to purchase the game, and got one of their last copies of the game.

I brought the game home, turned on the XBOX 360, (which I had played earlier that day) and recieved the 3 red lights of death .  A disaster that I have feared for a while now, as I have had my 360 since launch.

I went back to gameSTOP and exchanged the game for the PS3 version. I have been playing it almost non-stop, and have been loving every second of it. The games whole system of challenges and unlockables, as well as the independent development for every system- is exactly what every PS3 owner has been looking for in a huge multiplatform game. It is probably virtually identical to the 360 version, if not better in some ways (IMO) My PS3 croud is glad the XBOX 360 has failed.

I have since realized that I won't get the 360 back till after Christmas- and Every Multi-platform title will be bought for the PS3. It seems the developers are starting to get their acts together (reguarding PS3 development) at the right time.

What exclusive 360 game/s was I interested in, that I will not enjoy?  Just one- Mass Effect.

Congradulations Microsoft- In my particualr case- You have re-directed alot of $$$ to Sony.

And in retrospect- I couldn't be happier.

Why? 1) because I am assured I will be playing games on a reliable system. 2) The sixaxis/possible graphical advantage is becoming clear in rescent multiplatform games.

Ofcourse- i will miss the 360 as well.

Any thoughts on this novel, anyone?

You clearly have not read any of my rambling posts to believe that is a novel.

Hey, you are doing what I kinda hope a good consumer does. Feels unsatisfied with one product, so simply changes to the next in all possible circumstances. Good on you.

COD4 ad has PS3 in it

on-topic - lol ya.. Microsoft really hasnt done much ti fix the problem.. they need to learn its the freaking X-Clamp, its not the heat so adding a heatpipe doesnt effect anything. Remove the X-Clamp and screw the damn motherboard in and the RROD problem will be solved.

There...are...FOUR LIGHTS!!!!!

Alas, your story is going to be replicated for hundreds of thousands of 360 owners this holiday season. US consumers continue to buy the 360, mostly because US consumers will buy just about anything (hell, just look at our cars, or our health insurance system, or our politicians), but European and East Asian consumers are refusing to drink the Koolaid.

I'm still stunned that Microsoft, one of the most profitable companies on the planet, thought it could get away with releasing this kind of substandard hardware. They're clearly an empire in decline.

 Best episode ever.

Good for you, failing hardware is most peoples reason to exchange/stow away their hi-fi equipment and PC's. It's a sure way to kill your lust for games and your trust for the manufacturer.
I'm glad that some dev's are now developing multiplat titles worthy ofd mention on the PS3 as well, no more 0.3 less score on gaming sites every time...

What are you talking about?  If you read the OP, you'd have noticed that his 360 is from launch, not a new model.

To say Microsoft hasn't done to attempt to fix the problem during any of the time between launch and today is ignorant.
